Hello everyone,

I believe that Baldur's Gate 3 was initially announced at E3 in 2019, then the gameplay trailer was shown off at Pax East 2020. That being said The Game Awards seems like it is starting to become a pretty big deal - with a lot of announcements, trailers and release dates being revealed at the show.

With Patch 9 updated on Steam and seemingly ready to go does anyone think there is a chance Larian is targeting The Game Awards for big news? I would imagine if Larian pops up at the show it will be with a release date - but also maybe a new trailer of some sort and possibly even just a small "tune in for the next Panel From Hell and information on Patch 9 on <insert date here>"?

Well, if they plan to release the game on the first half of 2023, especially between March-May, it could make sense if they delay until then for a patch, maybe a final one, so that the game goes full speed for release afterwards.

Would be great to see a BG3 trailer at the game awards! I am still hoping for this month for patch 9, though.🤞

They usually like to have new content for those big awards in order to get PR and showcase the game. Maybe. Who knows with them.

I'm still not 100% convinced the game is coming out next year.

I think they pretty much have to at this point. Not from a hopeful fan that wants to play the game point of view - but from a monetary perspective. Larian is a super cool studio and I appreciate everything they are putting into the game to try to make it great...

But even Sven himself said in a previous interview or two that they absolutely do want to make money off of the game (I mean obviously, but he went out of his way to say it)... and to do that it eventually has to release - some things they want to do will be cut, not everything always makes it into a game.

It also seems like as of the last Panel From Hell that they have everything in place and are mostly working on 'polish' now. It would be pretty surprising if that takes over a year to complete.

But maybe it will get pushed back even further. Perhaps they made Act 3 and Baldur's Gate absolutely massive, totally underestimated the amount of work and now are in big trouble, haha.

I think there's a decent chance we see something at the game awards. If they want to release it next year, that's a solid time to start really warming up the hype train. As for it releasing next year, honestly I think that's perfectly plausible. It might seem longer because we who took part in early access are probably thinking about the game more than the average potential buyer, but the first gameplay trailer was announced in 2020. If you take into account COVID disrupting things royally, then I don't really think the game has been in development for an unusually long amount of time. If you wanna talk about unusually long, then look at the length between the first teaser to Dragon Age 4 and now. That's like, three or fouryears and we've only recently started getting anything close to substantive about it.
