-What are the odds we see these 2 mind flayer icons
-We are in the underdark where they lair but would we even be able to fight these guys at level5-8
I imagine other mind flayer groups would be pissed at the absolute mind flayer group using magic and might throw the whole cavelry at them

chances of appearance

It's what happens when an Illithid tadpole ceremorphises something other than a humanoid, in this case, a beholder and a dragon. Illithid tadpoles make lots of different monsters, but what I'd really like to see is actually what happens when the procedure goes horribly wrong, which is a neothelid.

Ah so they're like the Xenomorphs from the Alien franchise, their bodies morph into whatever the tadpole gets into. That's honestly awesome.

Also thanks for the link, the illustrations are quite amazing. The gnome mindflayers made me laugh, they're cute! Though I feel sorry for the ones who morph from a Deep Gnome and the Roper, nature can be quite cruel heheh grin

Honestly would love to see these in the game as I'm quite fascinated by the whole Githyanki/Mindflayer culture. Does that mean that Mindflayers who morph from Githyankis are generally smarter than those who morph from humans and such, since Githyankis are supposed to be the intellectually superior race?

Lore-wise, yes. It's advantageous that your potential tadpole implantees be very intelligent, or even have psionic powers of their own, as this makes for a more powerful mindflayer. But this can also be dangerous, as intelligent and/or psionic slaves are much more likely to rebel and turn on them, such as the Gith, and the Duergar did.

In 2021, Wizards released the book Fizbans Treasury of Dragons, and in that book was the new Elder Brain Dragon. No way this isn't related to the game somehow.

I think this would make for a great end boss of the mind flayer portion of the game. Basically a stronger, but also more importantly, mobile, elder brain, with a breath weapon that can turn you into a mindflayer!
