Neither I or my brother can start after the patch thru Steam or GeForce Experience.

We have both Repaired as well as install and reinstalled .Net and rebooted.

No joy.

FIX: Steamapps/Common Network folder has the version they provide. Install current, install that one…all good.

Ideally get the latest version from Microsoft directly. They just released a security patch.

You want to download the .NET Desktop Runtime 6.0.12

Hello, no I found the solution and posted it in the troubleshooting page soon after the patch release. For me the game can only work with version 6.0.11, not the latest as advised wrongly (6.0.12)

saying for you doesn't help unless you tell us what system you have... every one else needs to understand that 6.12 is only complete if you download the actual installer not just the zip files
so https://github.com/dotnet/core/blob.../6.0.12.md?WT.mc_id=dotnet-35129-website
is a better link as that includes the installer

Really? Seems a tad assanine a zip would be different than an .exe for the same component. I mean, I believe you buy big ‘why’?!

My point was more about the security patch. Version 6.0.11 has security vulnerabilities and should no longer be used, period. Version 6.0.12 was released just a day prior to patch9 so Larian could not have tested with that version but the game should work with the latest (secure) version of .NET either by default or after a hotfix.

why = because they [Microsoft] kicked it out the door untested too... if you only run the zip files it does load most of the same stuff but skips the file that says "I have been updated"

p.s, as a note for other Gog users, their [Galaxy] server has now been updated... anyone still getting stuck should run verify and that now downloads the correct net to run Larians' Launcher
edit; actually it looks like they just replaced the launcher but its the same effect

I'm having the same problem here: Says I need to install the latest .net version. I downloaded it (the .exe, not the zip) , installed it, no love. Repaired it . . . Still nothing. Uninstalled it, restarted, Reinstalledstill no love.

I'm using GOG and not steam, but I went into the Baldur's gate GOG folder and there wasn't a folder labeled dotnetcore for me to mess with.

as a Gog user you run verify and that will replace the Larian Launcher or the net files are stored with Galaxy not Bg3 so GOG Galaxy\Dependencies\__redist in whatever folder you have Galaxy installed to... most people should just install net files on their system but thats the folder Galaxy checks if you don't want 6.12 on your system or you still use Windows 7

its also worth pointing out that Windows users should never install to C program files so if you put Galaxy there then it will not have permission to use any system files of which net is one

also users that did install the correct net files will now get a bullshit error message when running the Larian launcher

this message is bullshit and can be ignored or you can run verify to swap out the launcher... doesn't matter
