I really wonder what exactly were Larian trying to achieve with this item ...
We all (or at least most of us) have seen Oathbreaker during presentation, and speaking for myself (i bet im not the only one tho) i find his look quite apealing.

So when i "finaly" found this helmet, it pleased me to see that (based on its icon) we got the same looking armor.

My how i was surprised when i find out that instead cool looking closed helmet i got plate baseball hat with lightning rod and metal wings. O_o

My question for Larian is simple: Why? :-/
And my question for everyone else is simple aswell. laugh

Wich model would you preffer?
single choice

I have to keep helmets visuals off 100% of the time. No helmets I have seen are doing it for me.

Rag, i think some models are placeholder for EA. We don't even have any plate armor models in the EA yet, and we won't until release.

They save the good stuff for August.

That's how I feel, except I keep the visibility and resort to headbands instead of helmets. A self-selected increased difficulty from me, because only helmets protect from critical hits.

Im quite sure that i created one in Grymforge ... and im quite sure that Flaming Fist armors are Plate aswell, evet tho we dont get it from their corpses wich (along with the fact that we dont get whole Githyanki set from their corpses) pisses me off. :-/

We do not. You can create heavy armor in grymforge, but it's not plate.

Flaming fist is medium armor(half plate) as well.

There is not one plate armor model in the game, except the Oathbreaker knight, who uses the plate +1 model in a different colour. That armor is not available for us now though.

The problem is that not only there is not even one plate armor in the whole 3 years of EA, but the one we saw for the oathbreaker knight, still has weird misalignment issues from the waist down. It's like larian forgot how to design proper armor. Oh well.

It does leave me worried for the final release though. Are we gonna see some good looking plate armors? Will they remember that kneecaps are supposed to cover the shinguard and not the other way around?

Who knows :p

ngl it really bugs me when you kill an enemy and don't get its equipment in games like this. It wouldn't break the game in any way to get Githyanki shoes off the Gith patrol or drow gauntlets off the petrified drow-and we know these assets exist in a manner that they could be equipable, but ....ugh.

I hope this gets fixed for release, but Larian has a history of doing this in DOS2 too, so i hope they won't do it here as well.

I don't show helmets. They all look dumb and I have this thing about needing to see my hair in games.

I think its pretty safe to say that this armor isn't intended to be a part of the Oathbreakers set and the icon is very likely a placeholder or the Helmet itself is the placeholder for the actual Oathbreaker helm.
Personally when it comes to equipment and looks i usually take it with a fair grain of salt since there's already lots of placeholder things and other stuff that simply isn't in the game yet

Yes, the helmets are mostly horrible. Fantasy armours usually end up as impractical artistic flights of fancy.

Mind you, the DnD armour classification has always been dubious as well. Their descriptions use a lot of historical terms, but relate them to jumbled degrees of protection not really supported by historical examples. Not to mention that someone early on seemed to misunderstand "brigandine" entirely, and instead categorise it as light armour under the invented name "Studded Leather".

I'm glad it's not just me. I don't typically care too much about fashion, but dang that thing is ridiculous. It does look like a weirdly overcomplicated metal baseball cap. It's not that important to me, but I did wonder what look they were going for?

I suspect that all the different character sizes and shapes make some items difficult, and they have designed things to flex around problems linking up to the different PC models.

Headwear must be very challenging. Apart from circlets, all of the headwear has shown to have glitchiness or sizing problems in different patches. The Haste Helm has this crazy feather crest on it which is glitched right now, but not on all characters. Shadowheart wears it just fine, but on a male elf or human characters, the plumage detaches and hovers separately with a mind of its own.

It reminded me that plated baseball hat from Meet the Spartans:
