I was wondering if part of having that Oathbreaker Ghosty hanging out with Skelly is to test out those juicy backstories for custom-made characters that Larian promised, and add an additional layer to their character progression. Paladins get Oathbreaker, Warlocks get their patron to pop up, Clerics an avatar of their deity, Bards are stuck with Volo / Alfira to learn / acquire new tricks, Rogues get someone from the Zhent to keep an eye on them....

It would be odd that Paladin is the only class that gets a "special camp counselor".

lol, that would be very silly. I certainly hope that the camp groupies are an EA feature for testing and will be removed later on.

In that case... what if the oathbreaker is relevant to MORE characters than the paladin (like Skelly, Halsin, Volo...) and we just don't know about his full-story role yet?

What if contest is pretty pointless if there are no clues...

I think you are over thinking about this.

According to me this "follower" is just here because the paladin can become an oathbreaker.
The game needs a NPC to explain that + to allow players to change their oath again.

I just hope he will not stay in camp after act 1. Some choices should be definitive at some point and I guess you cannot be an evil paladin indefinitely and pay to become good again when it suits you.

In the DMG, the guideline is no more than twice (Paladin -> no remorse oath breaking to Oathbreaker -> atone to Paladin again -> no remorse oath breaking to Oathbreaker), but in the guide the requirement for Oathbreaker is more than just breaking an oath. The player character has to shown no repentance for his actions and his alignment has to be evil. Still, if you can pay Mr. Knight to return to Paladinhood once you selected Oathbreaking, they could limit it to once and the next time you break an oath and decide to go Oathbreaker it is permanent (someone will mod it out, ahahaha).

Same could have ben achieved trough narrator, system messages, character screen, or an object.

Quite honestly NPC seems like the weirdest choice ...
But i gues it fits Larian odd fetish "adressing system restrictions in roleplay". xD

I think having potential camp members based on your class could be interesting, but I'm not sure I'd like them all to have it. With classes like Paladin or Warlock, it is relatively easy to find something fitting. But what about more "generic" classes? What if the Fighter camp companion is some honorable blademaster or whatnot, but I am playing a skullduggering dex Fighter? Or vice versa? It could lead to an interesting counterpoint, but it could just as easily feel out of place and like the game is forcing my character to be something they're not.

As is it right now, I'd rather just have them focus more on making class specific dialogue options and interactions in the world at large. Ideally also subclass specific.

Don't you just hate it when people with dumb opinions have nice avatars?

That would be a good way of mimicing the BG2 strongholds, I would like to see it, even though I imagine it would be a nightmare to figure out a suitable NPCs for each class without assuming anything. I mean, rogues can be anything from dashing Robin Hood-esqe types to heartless assasins.

I love the idea of more animals wandering in if you play a druid or rangerr tho laugh
