When you try to knock someone out, the game world considers a knockout for a kill and this is not what I tried to do, with a knockout I could save two brothers from a swamp, but the game considered that with a knockout I killed them. And that's wrong, that's not what I did!

I did the same a knocked those two out. Ethel and my companions treated it like I murdered them. I even took a long rest and returned to see if the knock out status on them had cleared. Instead, they were gone and only two giant pools of blood remained.

I'd encourage you to report it as a bug to Larina's official bug report form (Here), if only to get their formal response - This has been an issue since non-lethal attacks were introduced, way, way back at a fairly low patch number and it's never been addressed, improved or fixed.
