I absolutely love this little guys energy and enthusiasm! Not to fond of his basic ideas themselves sometimes but his energy and enthusiasm is just spectacular! Lol. Lots of love and congrats to everyone involved in his (I'm guessing it's a he?) creation! I just wish he was somehow permanent! Maybe even for some weird reason tied into Gale's storyline for some reason? Just a thought. Maybe someone divine out there is in the works in some way. No I don't mean Mystra, she isn't going to have an evil quasit. Lol. Or just go with the simple fact of allowing any wizard the ability to learn the spell "summon Shovel" and make that a thing. Or even just let ANYONE learn it and summon him like a normal familiar/companion. Personally I hate the fact that anyone and everyone can use any scroll no matter what it is or what their ability scores are but that's just the way the game is I guess. This leads me to another question actually, why do warlocks actually get the cool ability to summon quasits or imps but wizards just get the normal garbage that really is useless? This isn't a complaint it's an actual question. Is it the whole "warlock/demonic ties" thing and that's that? Why are there only demonic warlocks? No good beings want to give a warlock power? Is the warlock intended to be just evil?
There are some games that just have really memorable characters and Baldur's Gate is definitely the one that I'm talking about. Minsc and Boo in both BG 1 and 2 and definitely Cespinar in BG 2 are who I am talking about. Now in BG 3 we have Shovel! I very much would love to see Larian make him permanent somehow. In all honesty what is Shovel's actual purpose in this game anyway? Lol.

All of the questions I have asked are 100% actual honest questions I am asking. None are intended to be a complaint in any way. I know some of my posts are indeed complaints but all of this post is 100% positive and sincere. I have to say that about 98-99% of what I know about 5th edition I have learned from BG 3. I don't actually play in a local group anymore. I did finally pick up a 5th edition PHB but have barely looked at it to be honest.

Ok, I do actually have a small complaint that I have to add. Sorry. Why does Shovel disappear when you do a long rest? It doesn't even seem to matter if he's hurt at all either. I can (unhappily) understand that he dissapears once he's killed. Ok. That makes sense. But he never took any damage. Just decided to bail on me overnight. Lol.

Please give us a way to make Shovel (the quasit, not the tool) permanent!

I think everyone loves Shovel! And so the topic of his/her/their/its gender has come up before. IIRC, quasits don't actually have a gender or care about pronouns. They just go along with whatever their master calls them. (Though I guess they might secretly sabotage that master if they're not keen about what they're called biggrin .)

But much as I love Shovel, I don't see how it could hang around and make sense from a plot or balance perspective. I suppose unless it became the quasit that could be summoned by Wyll or a PC warlock. And yes, I guess the infernal (or interplanar) connection might be why warlocks get to summon quasits and imps along with other creatures. Though it's pretty clear Gale has had dealings with imps before from his resurrection scene, it seems he's lost the knack.

But even if summoning Shovel didn't break balance for some reason, it'd need a lot more content to continue to be as great. Personally, I think it should go out on a high and be remembered fondly. I just want Shovel would get a proper goodbye if it survives until the next time the player does a long rest, rather than just vanishing. A short scene with it on returning to camp that night, in which it gave some snarky reason for doing a runner would do a lot to give me some closure!

Amen. Particularly with Rangers also, it feels very gamey to summon different animals rather than having a single creature you have a strong bond with.

Yeah he reminds me also on Cespenar and I really would like to see Shovel hanging around in our camp. I can really picture him popping up and annoying Withers quite a bit. biggrin That would be very funny dialogue. There could be several mini-encounters, ofc highlighted with Larian style cutscenes, integrated into the camp similar to Garrick and Lady Irlana back in BG II. woehoe
