How do you enable the new reaction mechanic?

From what understand a new combat reaction mechanic was implemented in patch 9—a reaction choice box appears when attacked. This is not happening for me. Not sure I’m describing this properly or maybe I’m misunderstanding what this mechanic is.

You do not get a reaction every time you are attacked, but only if you have an appropriate ability or spell that can be used as a reaction. Many classes don't yet have these (especially as some of the things that you'd expect to be set up as reactions, like attacks of opportunity, or like reactions even though they're probably more appropriately described as conditional effects, like sneak attack, haven't yet been converted to use the new system).

If you do have any reactions available, they'll be shown on a new tab on your character sheet, with an icons up at the top that let you swap between inventory, spell/action book and the new reaction one.

Yes, if you have a reaction that's been added to the reaction system, an icon should appear over the top right portion of the hot-bar. It's a pretty small icon for the reaction in question. Click on that and make sure to check the Ask box, otherwise the reaction will fire off using the automated system and not ask you for confirmation. Some reactions, such as the Attack of Opportunity, are not added to this system.
