Dash and Cunning Dash both say they double your movement but the radial metter, or whatever you want to call it, most certainly doesn't show it doubling anything. Dash just refills half of your movement and Cunning Dash even less. Is this a known bug that I haven't heard about or what? Is it actually doubling your movement but just not filling the radial meter representing your movement left?

it doubles as in you can move then use your bonus action to move again

I’ve never checked the behaviour of dash, but I know haste only doubles your base movement and not any benefits from items or momentum. Not sure if dash is the same? Or whether this behaviour is as per 5e RAW.

Larian's poor tooltips and bad explanations strike again.

Dash lets you use your movement again, as your action. Cunning dash does the same thing - lets you use your movement again, as your bonus action. What this means is that you can move up to three times your normal movement distance, if you do both.

This displays as a 'total of movement' on the circle bar - and rather than refilling your speed, it sets the 'total' figure to double, then triple that amount. This means that when you use dash after fully emptying the bar, it will visually only seem to refill halfway, and if you use cunning dash after that, it will visually only seem to increase by one third. It's a moderately arse-backwards way of managing it, and the tooltips are not as clear or helpful as they could and should be.

Ah, thank you. I understand the original problem now! I was struggling to picture where the confusion was coming from.

I guess I see why Larian increase the size of the gauge rather than refilling it, given it’s possible that Dash and Cunning Dash are used before the character moves. Well, or I suppose it could be redesigned to have separate gauges but that might get messy.

But yes, clearer tooltips would, as always, help for a start.

Dash + minor illusion is the most powerful combo in the game and can be used to kill any monster in the underdark by drawing them onto the fort defences trap... you also have sprint which can add a bit more free movement + 3m for momentum if hit and run is your playstyle
