So I've been playing the hag fight over and over, trying to figure out new ways or discover new outcomes. When trying to figure out if I could rescue servants, get them to my side, etc. One thing I noticed is that the Mask of Vengeance repeatedly (in several fights) attemps to attack the hidden explosive flower trap, instead of attacking someone in my party. I can see how she wants an aoe explosion, but she can't hit it. She ends up wasting her turn.

I wish the protection from good and evil spell would let us take their masks of. Or, at least one more mask

I am going to attempt Remove Curse and see if that works.

Did you try running away from the masks to end combat after Ethel was dead, and then returning? I’m interested to know if that fixed it (or at least worked around the problem), as if it did that would imply that you have the same bug as me, but that it isn’t tied to Ethel surrendering as I’d believed.

I usually kill Ethel right inside her tree entrance, before I even get to the masked people. But, the people wearing the masks are still kinda dumb. One of them will actually talk to you but the other 3 are in denial basically.

I believe one of them may be right and she really can't die just like that. Together with the freed mask becoming a hag hunter, and the mysterious M Ethel is in contact with, we might fight her again in Baldur's Gate!

Now that you mention that, I think that is how I triggered the dialoge between me and a masked servant. On my next playthrough as a Cleric, i'll try to remember to do that. As well as trying to remove curse on them.
