I didn't notice Volo's description until now. It seems that we can hire our mercenaries from him later. His description translated into English says:

"Procurer of companions, stories and curiosities."

If what I'm imagining is true, then it's an excellent idea to create our custom party mercs through Volo and provide them with a background etc. pp. (story) and some basic equipment (curiosities).

Hmmm. I dunno, even Wither's revival of our companions (as an abstract form of procurement) has more substance than Volo's description so far.

Volo is Volo, in the FR universe, when he is around misfortune can’t be to far behind…. 🧐

It's a joke about how he insinuates himself into adventure parties.

Anyway, from what I've heard about the other game, Volo would still be better than a "mirror".

And I think he runs off if he messes up your eye? Only done this once, so not sure if he should come back.

That could well happen, but someone like Volo won't stay dead for long, will he? Where Volo is, Elminster is not far away? It would be cool to see the two of them together having a chat.
