The first thing to apologize because this is translated with a translator, I hope it is understood.
Let's get to the point, I've never played D&D, so I don't know how it is, but I think it's unrealistic that if I'm with a bow or crossbow and an enemy attacks me melee you can change weapons without at least some penalty.

That the armor bonus for having a shield is received when I am with a weapon at a distance, also seems to me a failure.
And what I do not know is if you take into account the confrontation with the enemy.
My question is: Is this the case in D&D?
Otherwise impatient for the game to come out.
Greetings.

Not quite D&D, no.

As far as I know there is no penalty for switching a weapon but from what I can find switching seems limited - it seems that each player gets one free object interaction per round and that can be used to switch weapon.

The issue BG3 is something else entirely - BG3 doesn't really have weapon load outs: you have slots for one melee and one ranged set up and those are always equipped, no matter what your character has currently in hands. It seems to me to be there mostly to support Larian's hotbar UI design. Usually D&D and D&D-like titles have multiple weapons slots between players can switch between with some per-turn restrictions.

It is quite comical that one doesn't even need to have the shield equipped in hand to gain its +2 AC boost. In general, DMs let one draw another weapon if one is willing to drop the weapon one is wielding at the time on the ground. But equipping both another weapon and a shield in the same turn isn't going to happen.

I mentioned this in a recent bug report to Larian, and their support team told me this is a known issue intended to be fixed for full release.

Of course, if they don’t change free swapping between melee and ranged weapon sets too (which I hope they will), then people will still be able to get the AC boost by swapping back at the end of their turn. But at least we’ll be able to avoid the effect if we want to.

Awesome job on reporting that, I really should report a lot more! At least it's not 'working as intended'.

I would stil like to hope they will include this to difficiulty settings ... rather than just remove it completely.

Well, it's good news if in the end they take it into account and correct it, which is very important that you can't change weapons so easily and it will make things more interesting.

Yes, I don’t see them fixing it. It would require rethinking of the system, rather than creating two slots that player can freely switch between.

But who know maybe they have seen the light, and realised there are benefits to having, for example, multiple melee weapons of different damage type.

The free swapping is what they should comment on concerning Shields, but I guess they didn't?

Knowing Larian's track record it's entirely possible they only see the end of turn Shield cheese as "clever play".

No, though I hadn’t specifically mentioned that as a bug/issue in my report. I am intending to give feedback on free swapping, but am trying to get my own head straight on that point with the help of threads here before doing so.
