What do people think are the best skills in the game? Do you tend to build up just a few? Or do you spread your points out on a variety of different ones?

So far I've developed my characters pretty narrowly. My Death Knight is my melee fighter. Besides "Trap Detection," I only spend my points on Warrior skills. And that's only *one* combat skill (Two-Handed Crushing) along with Armor Usage and Evasion.

My Avatar is more of a jack-of-all-trades. But, even so, I currently only have him with five skills. He's a Bowman with Wisdom and Pickpocket. On top of that, I've stuck to just *two* Mage spells (Healing and Elemental Spread).

My thinking is that it's better to build up just a few skills, yet I wonder if maybe I shouldn't spread out a little more. Maybe at least another combat spell. (Any suggestions on a good one?)

Let me know your skill development styles and how they've worked for you.

(On a side note, I think the fact you can unlearn skills is a great innovation in the game. It takes the pressure off when your choices are carved in stone.)

I prefer expertise at a few things to mediocrity at many.

If a run a melee character she will have one weapon skill (changes through the game depending on the best available weapon), low level self-healing and maybe trap detection. Near the end I splurge on defensive skills but I find offense best, given a choice.

A caster will have low level healing, trap detection (if the other one doesn't have it), the hammer spell maxed out, lightning storm maxed out and extra points in a weapon.

Skills like sharpen and alchemy (when I get holy water) I learn, use and unlearn.

I've never had an archer or survivor-spec I kept long.

Reality is for those who cannot cope with fantasy. Fortunately, I can cope quite well.
