Windows just did an update on my machine, and told me that my system was not up to snuff for the new Windows 11.
I shall rant now ... thanks for letting me get this off my chest, I will feel better soon ...
OK, so tell me just what is gonna be so great about Win 11 that will make me want to buy a whole new machine? The jump from DOS to Windows was great, liked that a lot. The jump to WinXp was also great, happy to do it. The transitions from 7 - 8 - 10 left me wondering why they even bothered? Nobody really liked Win 8, and Win 9 was so bad they just skipped it. 10 is actually closer to XP, so I will accept that one, but I still hate a bunch of the features in 10 (like automatic full-screening when you drag a window too far to an edge, OMG that is awful).
Will BG III run on Ubuntu? I am just about ready to jump off the MS wagon. And no, I don't want to get locked in with Apple, either. Sheesh.
There's rarely much in OS updates that is particularly interesting any more. Generally Microsoft add features that make their life easier rather than yours. In the case of Windows 11, the new hardware requirements are because of new security and encryption features that are not strictly necessary. You can find hacker sites on the web that create respins of Windows 11 without ( what they consider ) bloat and junk, which work just fine on all machines that can run Windows 10, so the new hardware "requirements" are clearly not actually vital to Windows 11.
As for Linux, yes BG3 works fine under Ubuntu using Steam. Steam has an automatic compatibility layer, based on the Wine project, called Proton, which I have found runs almost all of my Windows games without problems. I don't recall BG3 having issues of any sort since patch one, once Larian had sorted out proper use of the Vulkan API. For performance reference, I am currently using a 2012 era 4 core Intel i7 processor, and an NVidia 1070ti, a combination which runs the game at max settings without any stuttering or artifacts.
Hope that helps.
