Not so spoil myself I haven't played over 2 hours in EA. I would like to know...

-Does it RAIN/THUNDERSTORMS in the game later on? Or any kind of other immersive weather effects?
I can't remember seeing any kind of video or screenshots with rain effects...

-Apart from camping, do we get to adventure during the NIGHT at some point? (not including the underdark). So NIGHT zones basically. Since Larian is the only studio in the business that can't program day/night cycles into their games.

-Any other notable immersive effects/sounds people enjoyed later throughout the game?

It just reminded me of the bowl of goat's milk that old Winthrop used to put outside his door every evening for the dust demons. He said the dust demons could never resist goat's milk, and that they would always drink themselves into a stupor and then be too tired to enter his room..

There is a fun example of using changing environmental effects in the sunny part of the EA main area south of the blighted village, but it’s a bit of a spoiler so I won’t say more if you’re trying to avoid too much info. It does show, though, that it’s possible to have different effects on part of the map, which could presumably also be used for things like night-time adventures in the full release when, eg, dealing with vampires, and different weather patterns, though I can’t think of any other instances in EA.

I don’t understand this fixation with day and night cycles. Lots of big name games have day / night cycles.

I can understand why most studio do it in the first place. I think its super cool and immersive for an RPG (not too mention lots of opportunities for all kinds of night-time related quests/encounters and story elements).

No, not in my opinion. I mean, there may very well be areas/maps that take place at night time in the game, if trailers can be believed. But, there are no real weather effects that I've noticed as of yet, there's nothing dynamic about it. The main overland wilderness map of EA has nothing of the sort really. The wilderness environment doesn't feel isolated, it doesn't feel wild, frankly it doesn't feel 'real'. It kind of feels 'fake', like the scenery in a play, for lack of a better analogy.

I am not even talking about day/night cycle...which of course I would love. But just having larian style <zones> taking place during night.
But wait, there isn't EVEN RAIN/STORM EFFECTS later in EA????
What, its just sunny 24/7 in Faerun now?

I can only imagine the uproar of putting puddles of water everywhere during a rainstorm considering how some players got a PTSD from DoS2 surfaces.

No, the area I’m talking about starts off sunny but … well, you’ll see if/when you play. True, in EA at least the indications are that environmental effects will be tied to areas with changes triggered by specific events rather than randomised weather, though the example I give I think might indicate Larian could implement weather if they want. But, while it’s hard to be sure how much time is intended to pass in the overland area in EA given we get to choose ourselves when the adventuring day ends, I’d guess that it’s about a week if you do everything. Which isn’t quite long enough for it to become too noticeable to me, at any rate, how stable the climate is, particularly given the aforementioned exception. It would definitely be noticeable if all overland areas we visit in the full game had the same weather, or even if they were different but we stayed in any one area too long.

But for me the approach of having ambiance tied to area and plot can definitely work. And while I’ve certainly seen and appreciated use of changing weather effects in games I’ve played previously, I couldn’t tell you which specific ones, and for any particular cRPG I’ve played, even ones I’ve spent hundreds of hours on, I’m not 100% sure I’d be able to correctly say if it had changeable weather or not, so it’s obviously not something that figures highly in my appreciation of games.

We did get some rain effects in DOS2; during some boss battles, first ship tutorial, the graveyard area...nothing dynamic of course. Enter the zone, it rains. Leave its sunny. But this kinda worked for Rivelon. Its a weird magical place.

Soon bards will be able to sing in the rain. Just think what those lighting items will be able to do soon.
