I went with the hag and tried to protect her as the brothers attacked and knocked both of them out, thinking they'd be happy when I return with their abducted sister later on but the game treats them as dead the whole way through which seems like a lost opportunity.

I wonder if larian will change this for all the knocked out NPCs. Maybe for certain ones where's they have specific role for the quests.
I don't think the brothers can be saved, can they?

Yep, this is a topic that crops up again and again, so hopefully Larian will be looking at making using non-lethal attacks more interesting in the full game. The masks in Ethel’s lair are another popular request for different handling when using this toggle.

Personally, I don’t think just leaving the brothers lying unconscious in a goblin-infested area should lead to them living, but I do think that we should be able to heal any character who has been knocked unconscious and have them wake up (possibly after we’ve stolen their stuff). Most enemies might just remain hostile and attack us again, but a few like the brothers or the masks (after Ethel is dead), plus NPCs who have surrender dialogue, might turn neutral and have further content.

For simplicity, leaving someone unconscious just lying where they fell without reviving them in a particular timescale could, I think, generally be treated as killing them as they could be judged to die from their injuries without treatment. But again, there could be some fun exceptions built in for NPCs who can survive in other situations that mean we might meet some of the NPCs we knock out again (eg Gimblebock and gang).

killing the druid kids, the orc drunks, the gith patrol, the paladins at the toll house etc etc
why = because Laian added the 'knocked out' idea after all the basic scripts are done and the script is what really drives the plot/ story which is of course also already done... at lest for this first act

its possible they woke up and added more options after tossing 'knocked out' into the game which would mean you see them in later acts... imo its worth hopping for

As far as i know, there are only two NPCs that can be knocked out and you can see the effect in EA ...

And those are Absolute Siblings, you meet next to the bridge before Blighted Village.
When you knock them out, they apear in Goblin camp ... imediately recognize you and attack you on sight!

But my wildest dream about this is that we will be able to knock out and arest even persones like Minthara, Ragzlin, Gut, or Nere ... after all, there IS a cage in our camp. >:]

there is a 'jail' at both golbin and druid camps and there is even some scripts for when you get arrested by one group or the other so its pretty cool idea to keep prisoners / slaves and i'm sure it will be modded in

Those Jails dont seem particulary related, but since they were mentioned ... that feature seems also a bit unfinished ... i mean, there is no way for us to serve our sentence ...

the point of the jail is to bust out and yes they arn't really that well made... i mean lets lock these people up then don't bother to guard them [what could go wrong]?

i assume Larian ran out of time or just plans to add more in after release day but the area is there so a mod would be pretty simple to add as long you didn't want it voice acted or could get someone to voice it if you did
