Name: Tav de Tolouse de Bourbon de Orlean I hear some french vibes here. I might be wrong or useless, but being french myself, and just in case it might prove useful (sorry if it is not), it would be spelled liked this in french : "Tav de Toulouse de Orléans" And I like your background story !

Since my first run in both previous baldurs gate games has been a wizard it has to be a wizard. High elf male this time and conjuration sub-class.

I was going for a French version of Percy's overly long name from Vox Machina. My limited knowledge had me default to those names. xD But then again, Noble!Tav should be the noblest.

You can go one character shorter as the "de" pronoun is contracted into "d' " when placed before a word starting with a vowel, like Jeanne d'Arc.

My first character, will be the first PC I made for D&D 5e: Daelyn Ferntwist
A forest gnome land druid, that works as a Biologist. So he studies nature just as much as he communes with it (meaning high Wis & Int). In my IRL game he took the Ritual Caster-Wizard feat, as he worked at a magical academy and learned from the wizards there how to use a spellbook.

I also got this in the works: Name: Taverna Breakjaw Race: Half-Orc Class: Ranger (Beast Master) Alignment: Chaotic Good Background: Outlander Taverna inherited a soft heart from her human mother, and is this a compassionate, nurturing figure. Since she often made captured humans into pets, she was banished from her clan and became an adventurer. Taverna tends to collect dangerous animals such as wolves, scorpions, a goblin, etc. When she meets Ketheric, she decides that she "can fix him" and eagerly courts him in typical orcish fashion.

Bard is such a Swiss Army Knife. It is actually fun to play in BG3. In table top, Not so much.

It’s great reading everybody’s approaches to character. That flexibility is the best part of a game like this.

I will start with a lolth Drow, most likely Collage of Swords Bard, with a 4 dip into Rogue for sneak attack prof and rest in warlock, and run rapier, and shield master trait for the bonus +2Ac and block reaction. This character will be chaotic Evil,
2nd play through: Dragonborne (Gold), Eldritch Knight (6), Fighter (3), Rogue (1), Warlock (2) Lawfully Neutral,

My starting character will be a Valor bard, using a two-handed sword, or perhaps sword and board if I decide to play hard-core mode (I do like a challenge). Probably will go human, or maybe half-elf.
My other characters for later campaigns or multi-player campaigns are: Drow spore druid Gnome Lore bard Gnome wizard (Divination or illusion) Tiefling light cleric Dragonborn storm sorcerer Gnome fey warlock

Bard is such a Swiss Army Knife. It is actually fun to play in BG3. In table top, Not so much. Can't say I agree with that. I did a play as a bard and didn't find him particularly useful apart from the archery. You don't get enough decent spells at the early levels and I didn't really see any stand out bard songs (unless I was getting that wrong). He certainly didn't feel like the main man in the group.

2nd play through: Dragonborne (Gold), Eldritch Knight (6), Fighter (3), Rogue (1), Warlock (2) Lawfully Neutral, EK (6) + Core Fighter (3) multiclass? How is that possible?

For the longest time, I was someone that really didn't care for the companions we had in the game. I was going to go with full custom parties, and made one of each class in D&D Beyond with strict PHB choices as examples of what I would make for BG3.
But with the official confirmation of Halsin bolstering the numbers of allies that I like, I may actually have a run with companions after all. So that said the two choices I'm considering are:
A Sword Bard sailor using a scimitar (I wish I could reflavor it as a cutlass). Probably going Human. Neutral most likely, as that Sailor background plays out like Locke in FFVI with his "treasure hunter vs thief" distinction. My Bard wouldn't be a pirate, he'd be a privateer.
A Draconic Sorcerer (never gone Copper before so I may want to play with acid magic a bit). Entertainer background to play into the personality of copper dragons. Half-Elf feels right with this one. Chaotic Good for sure.
EDIT: Never mind, probably not Copper Draconic after all since I forgot WotC hates Sorcerer and doesn't even give them Acid Arrow. In that case I'd probably just go Gold since Disguise Self as the given spell seems nice. Or Silver since I prefer cold over fire magic.

I was going to go with full custom parties I mean, that's fine if you really can't stand the characters, but in other games, when I play full custom party, I miss not only the story elements, but the lack of xp from companion quests Even when it's corny or repetitive, I enjoy the banter, it just adds texture to the story All custom party, a group of silent badasses without any personality, just custom tailored for ass-kicking? I miss all the flavor

Mhm. All things I've considered. But considering the alternative until a few days ago was to skip the game entirely, a custom party was the way for me to go.
The exp from companion quests in particular was something I wasn't worried about. The devs have always gone on about how massive the game is gonna be. It will probably be exactly like the PoE games (my favorite CRPGs) in that I'll be max level with plenty of game left to explore.

I'm going to make three characters and get them through the tutorial Nautiloid escape to decide which I like best, then run from there:
Dwarf-Duergar>Ranger-Gloomstalker
Dwarf-Duergar>Druid-Circle of Spores
Half-Orc>Wizard-Necromancy

this half-drow from Viconia is a cool idea...haha.
In fact, even a gap of 100 years from BG 2 is not a problem for Elves.
Since I got my savegame from BG2, I just wish WoC and Larian could arrange for us to load some of our old characters and just see them walk around in some future BG3 expansion pack specific for them... which means...a (very) high level mission for those characters..maybe 1-2 old ones walking together with 2-3 new ones...something like that.
Kind of like Obi Wan traveling with Luke.
So..one mission could be venturing into Ravenloft to get rid of Astarion´s old master. But apparently BG3 will deal with that with our current mid-level characters.
Anyway...
I like to check some of the characters people write here...
So far I built a deep gnome wizard (i.e. Yoda) and a tiefling Paladin...also experimenting with a Human Druid and an Elven Ranger. 2 unusual and 2 very typical builds..to travel along with the current origin builds.
