Larian Studios Forums Baldur's Gate III Baldur's Gate III - Technical & Gameplay Problems Paladin Class disappeared!!!

I bought the game last week, played as a Paladin up to level 4, and created several saves games. Today nothing worked, so I saw there was a new patch, and correctly updated with patch 8. Now my old saved games and auto-saves are incommpatible with the current version and when I attempt to make a new character there are only 10 classes, and the option to play as a Paladin is gone.

How do I get the option to play as a Paladin again?

Paladin was added with patch 9. O_o

I played it BEFORE updating ... and while I've been playing beta as a Paladin ... suddenly it stopped working today. How do I get Steam to allow me to access/update to patch 9?

No idea ...
There is a way to lower your patch ... but i doubt its even possible to do it unknowingly.

If you have very fast internet, reinstall should help imho.

Were you using a playable Paladin mod?

No, I was not using any mods ... just was an available class to choose when I downloaded the game through Steam last week, so I made one and started playing. Today none of my saved games work, I updated beta to patch 8 and it had no Paladin option. I am now deleting and re-installing and crossing my fingers.

It's surprising that you keep referring to patch 8. Patch 8 is ancient, and does not have paladins. You very much want patch 9, which is current and does have paladins

It had it ... it worked, and I played it to level 4 ... then it stopped working and is not longer an option ... so I verified files like 3 times, gone ... so I patched to 8 to see if that would work ... but obviously it didn't.

Who knows. I wish you a speedy and uneventful reinstall

Delete and re-install fixed it. I think, not enough time to fully test it yet, but the option appears now and it didn't instantly-lock up. Thanks @RagnarokCzD and @Colinl8 for the help and support.

If you only downloaded the game last week then you were presumably on patch 9 (which is the first and only one in which paladins are available). If you then 'updated' to patch 8 then you will have removed paladins.

Yeah ... I guess I was orginally on patch 9, then somehow it just got corrupted and stopped working. Then when I verified files ... it never noticed that it was corrupted. When I set it back to patch 8 it was never going to work.

1. Patch 9 got corrrupted, then
2. Verifiy files did not catch it any of 3 separate times, then
3. Setting it back to patch 8 was not a fix.

Fortunately, the last resort of delete and re-install seemed to work, AND my save games were there and worked. Guess that's just part of doing a betatest, heh.
