I should probably replay the game, but i cant help the feeling that facial expressions and movement in general are on completely different level during curent patch, then what was presented in last PFH.

I cut out some clips:
(Sadly, forum refuses to play them as youtube videos)
There is ofcourse MUCH MORE examples to catch ... i only send few examples to represent what i mean.

Do you see what i see here?
Its supposed to be two friends who see themselves after REALLY long time ...

The Dwarf female looks stoned to me ... her face (with exception of mouth) barely even moved.
And Karlach?
Besides that she took a deep breath with close mouth as it seems ... i dont honestly understand why she Frown, as she seen her old friend ... but why is she so chaoticly moving her head front and back? Is the drunk or something so she cant stand steady?

This thing is something i have noticed, and it bugs me to madness ...
I know in older games, where graphics didnt manage to even show mouth (or their movement logicaly) characters were often tug their head like that, to simulate speach ... but why is it here?
Do you know anyone who make such head movements when they talk?
Bcs i dont and it feels VERY unnatural.

This is also kinda weird ...
I thought she is talking about how (i quote) "things go dark, fast" ... why that sudden change of expression back to happiness on the word "fast"?

https://youtube.com/clip/Ugkxa-nX_IVVCb4omTVRfTouoz8YQ0zsvhrF

Same thing as before ... weird tugs of head, random facial expressions ... what is happening here?

https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxdfndyoqYvF6zArpuXCnaU1Gtlwbbmi1c

Here we can clearly see as the expresion go from happy to neutral state, prehaps a bit too early.

---

Another example would be Jaheira ...
In that conversation Swen showed:

https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxSQmnwvazDz21s9pkLXzwiraX05bTdtlq

I know he said its desinced ...
So maybe that was effect aswell, but Jaheira is shaking so wildly here ... so im sometimes affraid she got epileptic seizure. :-/

---

I mean i know there is still few weeks of work awaiting Larian, and even this may not be the finale ... or at least i hope it isnt, but quite honestly i thought they were using mo-cap to animate theese things ... so it feels really weird. :-/

I have been complaining about animations for the longest time and the majority of the forum seem to underestimate their importance.

These are clear examples of how they harm the narrative and take you out of immersion and the story. Unnatural, artificial and out of place. Some are intentionally bad like the goofy mech walking animation.

I was hoping the game would be polished as they promised, but it will not. This is the final version. Either they never used mo-cap or did a very bad job at it (likely the latter).

It is their first go at mo-cap from what I understand.

So I imagine there will be some hit or miss animations, with significant improvement in whatever their next title is.

I'm not impressed with the facial expressions either. But apparently we are getting underwear so that's alright then. Colour me ecstatic.
