I know we've been told "most" companions are romance options, and everyone except Minsc and Jaheira has been confirmed as one. Given that Minsc almost definitely isn't a romance option, what about Jaheira? Is there any confirmation one way or the other? I can see arguments both for and against so which is it?

I have it from a good source that Jaheira's romance is confirmed.

I don't know about Misnc and if he ever had a significant other but Jaheira is known to be married. I don't expect these two to be romanceable plus Larian has only shown Halsin and Minthara as romanceable outside our origin companions.

Minsc actually was a romance option in the datamines. Though his current status is unknown, since those recorded liens were connected to the post druid-grove siege party, and he seemingly is recruitable much later (Act 2?) than his original location (on the beach)


Is she known to be currently married? I wasn't aware of any lines/datamined information to that regard.

From what we know of canon, Jaheira is known to be widowed, but is not known to be married during Baldur's Gate 3. We also know from Baldur's Gate 2, where she was actually the canon romance option, that she was able to enter into a new romantic relationship very shortly after losing her husband. So while I can see lots of good reasons to not include her as a romance option, her past marital status isn't one of them. Minsc's only personal relationships in the previous games were that of being the guardian for his "Witch." Which is to say Dynaheir in the first game and potentially Aerie in the second. Neither relationship appeared romantic.

The main issue with a Minsc romance has always been his mental state. Whether he's actually capable of entering into a relationship and giving consent is debatable, so it's not surprising that many people think he isn't a romance option in this game.

I see what you mean plus Larian hasn't shown Minsc and Jaheira to be romanceable. Unless that are trying to keep that a secret somehow and wants the players to find out on their own.

I'm not exactly sure that she was the canon romance option for BG II. I know she was such in the novelization, but very little from that aside from Abdel Adrian existing seems to be set in stone.

Minsc does mention being popular with the ladies IIRC. So it's possible he has casual relationship offscreen, so to speak.

If Minsc is capable of risking his life, hes definitely capable of having romantic/sexual relationships. Hes quite capable of saying yes or no. Lol

My own expectation is that neither is, but if that's not the case I think it's more likely that Jaheira is a romance option than Minsc... It just makes more sense to me given her history as opposed to his.

I was also relatively sure that neither Minsc nor Jaheira are romanceable, but purely because they are D&D/Forgotten Realms canon characters now, so the characters (IP-wise) belong to WotC.
In the Pathfinder games by Owlcat, Amiri in Kingmaker and Seelah in Wrath were not romanceable because of that reason. but maybe WotC handles things differently than Paizo.

She was. And around all of these was plotted small story with Harpers and Eliminster.

Well according to the Eurogamer interview, it's all but two companions who are romance options, so it looks like no Jaheira romance.

Does anyone know if there is, or will be an option to make same sex relationships toggleable? I support gay/bi romances in games and movies, and in real life I have a few gay friends, so please do not misunderstand.

In early access I remember trying to navigate getting good relations with all/most of The companions in a playthrough. And at The celebrations after saving The Druid grove, I remember 4/5 or all 5 companions wanting to spend The night/date etc that evening. Personally, it felt a bit weird that all 3 male Brothers in arms/ companions were gay/bi, and suddenly wanted to romance me, at The same time. It felt a bit weird.

I DO NOT want Larian to remove it, I encourage it as is, I might Even interact with it, If I play a female playtrough. But I would like an option that makes it possible to toggle that on or off (easisest option). Or better yet that each character is toggleable, (so that someone like Astarion, which rates highly on The gaydar/bidar, can be The same either way).

Its just The everyone is bi thing that is a bit weird to me, and its very immersion breaking to be honest.

Seems to me that they are all pansexual and will romance the player no matter of their race or gender spectrum and I'm pretty sure there won't be an official "off" switch for that.

Just say no, in games it is a 100% guarantee you'll not get approached anymore

Regarding odieman's question, I admit I hope that they've toned down companions propositioning, telling us they wouldn't touch us with a bargepole, and commenting on who we're spending the night with at the party. It just felt a bit much in early access, though for me absolutely nothing to do with the gender of the companions.

Though to be fair, the Shadowheart scene doesn't need to be interpreted romantically and she only asks if we'd like to share a drink. I often just went with that when I didn't want to romance anyone in particular (though I always then felt a little bad for turning down her tentative overture at the end). And I don't believe Gale would proposition us unless we'd actively shown an interest either in his weave or loss scenes. Otherwise he'd talk about making merry with just the two of us, but that was just to say thank you for helping him out and to tell us he had something he needed to come clean about the next night. Astarion and Lae'zel's approaches seemed fairly direct and in character for them, and though I don't think it is actually necessary for them to comment if they don't want to sleep with us, I found their speeches rejecting us were actually so hilarious that I'd miss them if they were gone. Wyll's was the one I found most hamfisted. Especially if you've had him in the party with Shadowheart and Lae'zel and he says the Blade doesn't often share his blankets, and the natural thought is "not from want of trying, clearly!". But hopefully that'll be one of the many things that has been reworked about his story
