I enjoyed playing rogues, either Astarion or my own deep gnome rogue run.
But I think we're going to have to all make up our own minds on sneak attack when the game releases given from my quick playthrough there seem to have been many changes in that space.
One is that it looks like sneak attack has been added to the "reaction" system and presumably work in many ways analogously to divine smite on full release (though I wasn't able to confirm that). Whereas in EA it was only available as an actively selected main hand or ranged attack.
It was also extremely easy to sneak attack in EA, as it can be done whenever you have advantage or the enemy is threatened (someone will correct me if I've oversimplified there, I'm sure!). And as one source of advantage is hiding, and hiding was ridiculously easy in EA, it wasn't particularly difficult to sneak attack every round. But as per updates I've popped in other threads, it looks as though hiding will be harder on full release, though less so presumably for rogues so they should still be able to do a fair bit of sneak attacking, especially if you sic another melee character or summon on the person you want your rogue to attack first to make sure they're threatened.
In terms of slowness, no not really. There was an OTT sneak attack animation added in, I think, patch 9. But as I screwed up my few available attempts to sneak attack when I had chance to play the game, I wasn't able to check if that's been toned down.
EDIT: I think I forgot to mention this in another thread about sneak attack but I can't find that one now, so will just say here so it's somewhere, that the way sneak attack had been implemented in the reaction system from what I saw was very like divine smite in that there were two options: one for configuring normal sneak attack and another for critical hit sneak attacks, so you could if you wished set crits to always sneak if possible whereas normal attacks would ask.
