Hello!

I've played in BG2 and Planescape:Torment and it was really easy to understand combat system. This game for some reason is complicated for me. Fot instance: in BG2 you had weapon speed, i.e. how many steps (points) in a turn it will take. So you could pick something small and hit two times or a big sword and hit one time. I don't understand how it work in this game. Can someone enlighten me?

I am not into a D&D game so sorry for silly questions.

All weapons have the same speed. Your number of attacks is based on only your class and level. Different weapons do different damage, occasionally an enemy will be resistant to a particular type of damage (not that often, though) and you do need to decide if you want a two handed weapon or a one handed with shield, but outside of that different weapons are mostly a flavor choice.

This game improves the system by given every weapon type a special attack you can do once a day, so there is more strategic decision making, but honestly, it still comes down to flavor most of the time.

This is actually not how weapon speed works in Classic BG, either, it works similar to BG3. You have a fixed amount of attacks per round. Warrior classes get more than rogues and casters. Certain weapons, on the other hand, come with an extra attack per round; such as a shortbow at +1, or even more - darts at +2.

Weapon speed in BG1/2 merely means how quickly within that round the attack goes off. So you can weave; a dagger strike will hit before the enemy gets his attack off with his greatsword. As a warrior gains more attacks per round, however - the weapon speed becomes less and less important, as the weapons become quicker just to 'fit the attacks into the round'

Edit: IN the Enhanced Editions, there is an option called 'Cosmetic Attacks' which makes it look as though you're fighting, whereas in reality, you are not. You probably have that turned on, as it is on by default.

Fear my wrath, for it is great indeed.
