IMO as well, best looking race in the game, great artwork. However other than the resistant to element of said Color of your Dragonborn, do they really bring anything viable to the table?

DRAGON FIRE-AND DOOM Dragons? Splendid things, lad-so long as ye look upon them only in tapestries, or in the masks worn at revels, or from about three realms off... Astragarl Hornwood, Mage of Elembar - Year of the Tusk
First, Resistance to elements is HUGE, and will be more so in HARDCORE.
The breath weapon with its increasing D6 is good, once a day yes... but its not full dragon lol, Lets see how Larian has the save. If its anything like my clerics sacred flame LOL
BLAH that thing never hits.
Also I think the Dragonborn should get +2str +2Con like a shield dwarf do to if nothing else there size, and maybe... +2 intelligence? ok +1
grease Yes, there will be fun ways to play them. I just wanted to throw out that video,
imagine if you will... Red/Gold/Brass dragonborn with a belt full of grease bottle running at a large crowd of enemies throwing himself into the mob and lets loose his breath weapon... Nice brah, and is able to stand in the middle of it and take no dmg.
Pretty sweet

I found the breath weapon pretty handy on Dragonborn in Solasta, particularly against enemies who are just out of reach. but it was buffed slightly relative to the PHB version, as I assume the BG3 version will be. In the tabletop game there tends to be more hand-waving over positioning, so "just out of melee range" crops up less often.
NB, given the choice, always select line over cone.
Personally I like the Tasha's Cauldron of Everything approach to stats as it makes races a bit more viable to more than one or two classes but I do agree dragonborns need a little more. Dark vision and enhanced breath attack are also excellent recommendations. I would not mind Larian implementing this...assuming the dark and evil overlords from WotC wouldn't deny these changes.
Dragonborn might be decently strong in BG3. Their elemental breath is almost definitely going to combo with ground effects and interact with explosives, so gold/red/brass dragons are going to find situations where their breath can end entire fights.
But then you have the resistance. I imagine black and copper are going to be incredibly good in BG3 just because so few things resist acid AND every goblin in the universe seems to carry a vial of acid on their person at all times. Imagine taking on the goblin camp with a character that takes half damage from their acid vials and can spit acid right back at them.
Green might also be stronger than you'd expect. Larian has a tendency to assume all poisons everywhere are explosive gas, so there might be some synergy with blasting enemies with poison and then setting fire to the poison mist or something. If nothing else having resistance to all the poisoned arrows in the game will be nice.
Bit disappointing they didn't go for the Fizban's version of Dragonborn, it's easily the best and most comprehensive.
Yes, thats quite strange that Larian is otherwise superpowering everything and not caring an inch if they unbalance something, but for something they, in their own words, spend a lot if time on they stick to the core rules which even Wotc admitted to be lacking which is why they updated Dragonborn in Fizbans.
For those that don't know Fizban: - Floating stats like in Tasha - Breath weapon 1d10 + 1d10 at level 5/11/17 - Breath weapon usable proficency bonus times between long rests, even as part of a multiattack - Metallic dragonborn: 2nd Bteath weapon with status effect (stunning, pushing, knockin prone, ect.) - Chromatic dragonborn: Temporary elemental immunity instead just resistance - Gem dragonborn (new): Telepathy and temporary flight at lvl 5.
WOTC goes out of their way to reduce races to cosmetics. And so by liquefying and blending all racial traits, they have become mere cosmetics.
Between Fizban's Treasury and OneDnD this is definitely not true. The Dragonborn has been getting all kinds of new abilities to make them stronger and stand out more.
Dragonborn are that race that in Appearance, Lore, Stats and support got shafted hard from 4e to 5e. its funny, WOTC seems to insist ont hem even if the oldschool fanbase hates them (for stupid, pearl clutching reasons),but WOTC insists on making them terrible and stick out like a sore thumb. I guess theyre too much of a reminder of the BAD (read: better than 5e) edition
Maybe, but do you really care that much? It's a single player game, and not even a hardcore one, pick whatever you like aesthetically, from RP perspective, etc. You don't need a "META" race or build, you don't compete with anyone.
I'd never play a dragonborn even if they started with 18 in all stats, bcos I can not RP and / or connect to the character.
But I absolutely play Humans, Half-Elves and Gnomes just bcos I like them visually.
On one hand, I want to play a dragonborn because they look amazing.
But...
Like the comment above, I have trouble connecting to the character. Understanding the character, I should say.
A dragonborn doesn't seem to have lips for kissing, for example. How does that impact the character? Let's say I want my character to romance Shadowheart. How strange is it going to look watching the two of them together? Just feels kind of creepy to me.
I actually personally have a bit of an issue with them visually. people seem to realy like them but im... unconvinced.
Their heads are very large, i guess that was always the case. but they also have been redesigned. Gone are the Dreadlocks (i know everyone hated them, but i liked them), instead they got huge horns now, but they are REALY huge, makes the head even bigger.
What i also dont get: they dont have tails, that was always part of the lore... but in the tik-tok video the dragonborn monk had a tail? did they remove that in the last minute because they realized DnD Dragonborn dont have tails?
personally, id like to bring back the classic 4e design with the less massive horns, the weird tendrils and making em WIDE, but thats an issue i have with all BG3 character models. But with the large head of the dragonbron its more noticeable, they technically have the muscular body type (i think they dont have an option for the non muscular one) but becuase of how huge their heads are, they look kind of scrawny. Also their heads are LONG. Just... it just looks abit weirdly proportioned, like their heads should be 1/3 smaller to actually be able to be carried by their necks.
