I would say that it makes perfect sense for dragonborn to have dark vision. But also that it makes little sense for gnomes and arguably tieflings to have it. Fiends live in hell, high you'd assume would be pretty well lit, what with all the infernal flames. I've seen in Pathfinder 2e as well that waaaaay too many ancestries get darkvision or low light vision and it's strange. Basically I'd remove dark vision from a couple more races, replace it with something reasonable that makes lore sense and give darkvision to dragonborn.

I do wonder what the odds of Dragonborn getting DV are. It's a little tragic that ass such a cool race they're also just... not very good. And while there's a lot of arguments all around for balancing, as an IDEAL races should be fairly close to one another in effectiveness.

Way too many races have darkvision as it is.
Only underdark races should have it.
Why the hell do surface elves get it? Why do half-orcs and half-eves get it?

It's true that I have no idea why elves and (half) orcs have Dark Vision, as they live in nature outside, in daytime. I agree, now I refrain from taking races that don't have this, it feels like an handicap.

This goes back to Tolkien who had Elves run around under the light of the stars, before the Sun and Moon were created.
Orcs were corrupted/debased Elves so there you go ...

As to DnD - there is confusing and inconsistent terminology.
IIRC in some DnD editions - and in various other fantasy RPGs - there was a distinction between:
- infravision, for underground races
and
- low light vision, for surface races

As to the OP - I think that Dragonborn are a stupid race, whose only place is as mooks in the Dragonlance setting.

No dont, Dragonborn dont have darkvision in D&D (weird as that may sound), this should not be changed for BG3. There are many races with Darkvision (most I believe). Adding darkvision to yet another race would just further add to the imbalance of races with darkvision. Darkvision should be a special ability. As it is, its almost the norm among races, where it should infact have been the opposite.

Sooo technically... this burnt corpse is your fault officer."
