Seems like Larian approach is:
Martial class = Greatsword + GWM
Caster class = Fireball

I really hope this dont become borderline for ballancing. :-/

In the table top it specifically forbids any weapon with the heavy or two handed category. They get to use dex to their monk weapons for attack and damage, if they can do that for a two hander it could be very unbalanced. Also I always assumed that the extra attack they get is an offhand punch? Not the level 5 one, the extra martial arts one. Nah, I hope the rules prohibit any weapon and the dex to damage and attack only works with specific monk weapons and not just proficiency

Its unarmed attack ... it can be kick, headbutt, or something simmilar, not just offhand punch. smile
But they also get extra attack on level 5!

Meaning 3 attacks per turn at level 5 ... just as Berserker Barbarian (they are slightly stronger tho) ... or Martial class with Polearm mastery ...
4 if you invest Ki.
5 if you multiclass with Thief, or find some item that gives you additional Bonus Action, or with Haste/potion.

If im not misstaken.

Polearm could be awkward with monk. If you hit something that is in reach of glaive but out of reach of unarmed then you miss your bonus action or flurry of blows attack. On the other hand, Githyanki monk with greatsword proficiency could be solid.

I have a question about Monk, sorry if it's stupid! I don't know much about BG systems and less about DnD!
So I always kept hearing "unarmed attack" or something and I just assumed Monks could attack without a weapon equipped. But in all the footage the Monks have that bo staff equipped and attack with that. Is unarmed attack just a skill to use? So it is not possible to always just punch your way through fights? That was kinda my Monk dream biggrin

yes, you can stick with Unarmed Attack and punch your way through fights. Your fists start at 1D4 but get stronger as you level up - and you get an extra BA unarmed attack, at 6th level your fists are considered magical for overcoming resistance. Then with flurry of blows you can use Ki to make additional unarmed attacks.

Ah okay, thank you! So I can still do that, though I also don't mind the staff. I guess I'll just see what I end up with. smile I saw that other weapons are also viable, but as Monk I'd just want to use fists or the staff.

Monk in 5e may hold a "monk weapon" and then choose to attack with the weapon or use their unarmed attack. The monk weapon will do damage equal to its usual damage die, or equal to the monk unarmed damage die, whichever is larger (this makes quarterstaff or spear very good weapons for low level monks, since they have d8 damage which is better than unarmed damage until level 11 or so).

When a monk takes the attack action with either their equipped weapon or unarmed attack, they may also take a bonus action to make an additional unarmed attack. If they spend a ki point they may make two bonus action unarmed attacks rather than just one. The bonus action attacks are unarmed even if the attack action used the weapon.

The above is how it works in 5e. Larian may have modified things a bit. If great sword can really be used as monk weapon, then it will pretty much always beat the unarmed damage die, unless Larian buffed that too.

Human or Gith Monk, GWM. Stunning strikes with a heavy weapon sounds like fun. Your BA is pretty full...so skip PAM for ASI or Mobile i suppose.
