Yeah, the Hireling feature just seems half-baked. Or like it was implemented to show off a bunch of cringy OCs and force you to use either them or the equally cringy origin companions that Larian actually put work into.

Yeah. I don't get it. It seems like somebody needs to sit Larian down and explain what a "custom character" is. We want to make a character, like Tav... then make another character like Tav... then maybe do that again.
It's really that difficult that when you talk to withers to hire someone it takes you to the character creation screen instead of that list of weirdos?
If that ideal one is that problematic, at least let us full hireling customization on magic mirror, including race, background, sex,...
I am baffled that instead of just letting us fully customize hirelings, every patch it's a small and almost mocking addition to ever-so-slightly change what they're like. Patch 4 allows to customize them on hire, but... you can't change their voice. The fact that they share the voicelines with a custom PC despite being supposedly devoid of free will and being controlled by Withers is another weird inconsistency amongst so many others.
Haha, yeah. I am ALMOST able to create the partymembers I want, but just not quite there yet. It's INCREDIBLE annoying. They somehow manage to get people's hopes up at every patch and hotfix and then are able to let us all down with some completely unnecessary and illogical limits and restrictions, to an already broken and lackluster hireling system.

Grrr. I was really hoping for custom characters with Patch 5. There's good stuff in there, but I still don't want to play Act 3 until I can make a custom party to experience it for the first time!
Me too. I was also hoping that the new "Custom" mode menu would allow you to select a more RAW 5e experience. No such luck. I haven't played BG3 in a couple months, and I probably won't until the definitive edition is released, and/or full custom party support is added.
I'm starting to think that they don't want you playing with a fully custom party. How long before they figure out a way to patch out the multiplayer work around?

At this point, the folks who made the BG3 wiki should consider making a functional forum. This is an absolute embarrassment for Larian and whoever's tasked with running the forum behind the scenes. I've never been anywhere on the internet that was this consistently broken.
I don't understand the hirelings feature. Why are they premade characters? Lame premade characters with no history, personality or any meat on their bones at that.
That's entirely different from making a new character from scratch. Then you come up with their history, personality and name. They are your characters. Who wants to edit Sir Fuzzlump instead of creating their own Wizard?
At this point, I think Larian simply doesn't get why making a character in D&D is important. Not just important, but the most important thing. First the emphasis on their own origin characters over the PC, and now this.

There are so many things about this game that give away the fact that all Larian wanted was to be able to make a game with the D&D name, but not a real game for D&D fans. The fact that you can't even roll dice for, or point-buy the stats for YOUR MAIN CHARACTER is a dead giveaway. The continued idiocy that is the hireling system is more proof. Listen, I'm really glad that you care so much about the sexual appetites of your origin characters, but I could not possibly care any less about how much their junk jiggles or not. Until I can make a party of custom characters without using a mod, I'll never play this game again, but I'm sure Larian doesn't care about that, because they already got my money.
I popped back in to see if I could make a custom party after a couple months and... see you in a couple months!
At least giving them different voice barks from a custom PC will be a good start. Change the Dark Urge's too, while they are at it, because they make no freaking sense either.
Full customization is definitely the most desirable outcome, but for how "creative" Larian are touted as, they have gotten more rigid than they've ever been with their games. Something-something modern audiences something.
