Will we be able to create custom 4 character parties in the full version, or do you still have to abuse the multiplayer glitch/ change the companions Larian provides? I would like to (not in my first playthrough, but eventually) roleplay the party from my tabletop dnd sessions. For that, I would like to create and play their characters. Imo this should be included in the full game. Yes, you can change Shadowheart, make her a Paladin, ... BUT you can never change her race, and you can not really change the personality either Is there going to be a full Tav party, if I want to play that? Thanks

It looks like it’s going to need to be setting up multiplayer games by yourself still.
A bit disappointing, but I’ll live.
I’m actually looking forward to the companions in this game more than I thought I would, so I probably won’t spend as much time with full custom parties as I thought I would. Maybe by the time I’m ready to go 4 Tavs walk into a Nautiloid Larian will have patched in a proper way to do this.

Yes, it is not a big problem (though I am still very annoyed you can change the class but not race of origin characters). It is not something I would do on a first playthrough, but I think it would be fun to do themed playthroughs. DnD characters, fictional characters, real life friends... Maybe they add it eventually, you are right...

You can do 2 by default by starting it as a two player game. 4 will probably need the workaround.

If you play as Two Tavs as a single player, doesn't that mean that second Tav will have a completely separate progression?
I mean, let's say Tav 1 goes to Shadowheart, kisses her on the cheek. Now I select Tav 2, does the same thing start over again? Does Shadowheart tell me; Sorry already seeing a Tav? I haven't done this in EA, I sincerely wonder how that'd work.
Fear my wrath, for it is great indeed.

Will that mean we can start a 4 Tav playthrough with only two instances of the game running? That would be awesome. Running 4 instances occasionally caused issues. Nothing like building 4 characters only to have the game go “nope” and give up.

Turn the graphics all the way down, start the game 4 times and create a multiplayer file, close three of the windows, and put the graphics setting back up, and now you can control all 4 tavs

I'm aware that I'm beating a dead horse, but I'll take any opportunity to reiterate my hope that we can make a full custom party with Withers, if not at the start of the game without using the multiplayer approach.
Selfishly this is also because I'm a fan of larger parties and will mod my game accordingly, so relying on the multiplayer approach renders that hope dead in the water right from the start.

RIGHT?

I haven't done this in EA, I sincerely wonder how that'd work. Totally different progression. As an early example, only one Tav gets the approval bonus for freeing her on the ship. On the other hand, if you want to romance two different characters, you can pretty easily manipulate relationships by having the unimportant Tav make the decisions that impact relationships. I.e. If you are going to piss off SH with a decision you really want to make, like opening a particular chest, the Tav that is romancing Gale can open the chest with no damage done on the first Tavs relationship.

On a side note, if there is ever a situation where you really need to steal from someone in DOS2, turning on the second player controller and distracting the target with a convo worked really well. Obviously haven't tried with BG3 couch co-op, but it is something worth trying if you have sticky fingers.

You can just start a conversation with one character and switch to your pickpocket while the NPC is locked on your first character. I have stolen from many merchants this way.

Totally different progression. Huh. Fancy that. I might give that a try once.

What is the benefit of not allowing it? - Players get the experience with the NPC's, as intended at launch. - They haven't worked out how it works with flags and progression witth four Tavs, and now they dont have to. - Players with four Tavs will miss out on a truckload of content and complain about it. - They can keep it in reserve for Icewind Dale 3 - The game could be massively unbalanced with a highly optimized party of four and cannot be tested at launch - They can gather metrics on bugs and quest-related issues without having to account for four Tavs - They have narrative reasons for it; ie. Where do the Tavs come from?
