So, watching the most recent character creation videos:
I noticed that skills seem to be allocated based on class / background with no menu item on the left or obvious place on any of the screens to actually select / customise your starting skills. The fextralife video doesn't mention selecting skills at all as part of character creation. Obviously this is quite different from EA but fits with pact of the tome locked cantrips, bard college of lore skills being locked in EA so I wonder if Larian has decided to 'streamline' some aspects of character creation by locking skills to class/background. Pretty disappointing if that is the case.
Background skills are set. Class skills are selected from a certain pool that class has available. I dont think he ever clicked that tab. It should be on your class choice I believe, though its been a while since I played EA.
From the video you see several skills listed under the classes, and you certainly dont get them all, that would be a major and controversial choice which wouldnt have gone unnoticed
"They say he who smelt it dealt it." Sooo technically... this burnt corpse is your fault officer."
Yeah I would hope that something like that wouldn't have gone unnoticed but the class menu option doesn't seem to have a skill selection option and neither does the background menu option and there is no 'skills' menu option on the new interface on the left. Having been playing EA quite a lot recently which is why it stuck out at me. I guess there was a very limited play time that people had with the latest build (with only Fextralife getting the full 2 days) so maybe it did slip by without people noticing?

I’m trying to remember exactly how this worked from my own chance to play the newer build. IIRC the default skills appeared in the middle of one of the tabs and there was some sort of option/button to pop up a window change them from there, rather than a separate tab. Don’t quote me on that, though.
"You may call it 'nonsense' if you like, but I've heard nonsense, compared with which that would be as sensible as a dictionary!"
Don't forget that the build people played at Ghent is not the final build so even the knowledge that The Red Queen and others have might not be accurate.
That being said thanks for all the info you can provide xD

Thankyou, maybe it is under the small details button on the class menu then. It just seems weird that there is a menu item on the left for choosing spells, cantrips and other class abilities but no menu item for selecting skills.
re: Ghent not the final build - the timeframe is very short from the preview to release so I wouldn't expect Larian to be doing many changes beyond bug fixing at this late stage.
No body has a video of it either, I just watched the most recent Wolfheart Video, He says in it, that at the last PFH they were not able to access those tabs. Probably why we haven't seen any video lol DOH
obviously still in the works, there will be a video by Larian released before launch.

From what he says on the video I would assume Larian has told him he'll be getting more material to show before release...

Me neither but it's time enough to change stuff around and/or revert/add some things. There's a reason why we're not having those 3 early access days anymore and I doubt it's just because bug fixing.

I didn't hear the bit where he said that but he does say about skills it is a 'later on tab' in the character creator so maybe the left sided menu is dynamic and the skill option doesn't appear till very late in character creation? Or as Red Queen says it is an edit button inside one of the tabs. Would be really nice to see a start to finish character creation rather than snippets where they are jumping all over the place and avoiding scrolling over any of the icons.
