I'm getting ready to play as early as possible (31.07). So far, I've been playing on a Windows PC since 2020, which can handle the highest requirements of the game.
However, I would also like to be able to play on a 2017 Retina 4K 21.5' iMac that I have been using for work so far.
I upgraded this mac recently as well. It had a drive replaced with an SSD and Ram up to 32GB.

Its specifications now:
2017 Retina 4K, 3.4GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB Radeon Pro 560 graphics and 32GB memory. The latest OS VENTURA.

In theory, according to the devs requirements, the game should be smooth in low or medium quality.

And here the theory ends and practice begins: the game automatically sets the quality to medium. It is unplayable. Trying to reduce the quality to the lowest possible levels does nothing as only a little bit. Resolution - the same. Especially since no one will play such a game on a resolution of 800x700 no shit!

It turns out that the game is absolutely unoptimized and what the devs state is wrong?

Let me know please!
whether to start the game on Windows and wait for optimization for Mac or forget about ever running this game on this iMac?
Which would just be rude when given such and not other requirements by the developers....

1st of course the game is unoptimized ... it isn't even out until next month

my option is yes use your Windows system because yes Mac just isn't as good for gaming... yes in another 2 months or so after Windows goes live and they get around to fixing all the issues then you should see something a Mac can just about manage

I have an iMac with that big, beautiful display. I bought a windows license and use BootCamp, and do all my gaming in windows.

Performance is sufficient, but the visuals are so much better on highest settings that I'm taking the GeForce NOW route in the future

Runs better on my iMac than it does on my beefy Windows PC. (I have two licenses)

Mac - 2022 27" iMac with 16GB ram i7 proc - Radeon 5300, 500 GB ssd.

PC - i7 8th gen - RTX 2700 Super - 32 GB ram - 1 TB M.2. Drive.

Mac outperforms the PC during gameplay.

OP - your Mac is RIGHT on the 2017 minimum specs line. What kind of hard drive are you sporting?

according to the developers, exactly as you write, my mac is between low and medium settings. that is, in theory, at a very low level, the game should be smooth and work flawlessly. unfortunately it is not. it turns out that there is a lack of optimization and hope that Larian will deliver what they promise with the release of the full version and a possible patch.
I had the drive replaced with an SSD, I have the box somewhere but cant find now. For sure it is a fast drive. Minimum +100% faster than if I were to use the HDD mounted in imacs from 2017 ... - I think this clue is not the point.

You should be fine then for the full game, but fingers crossed. Good luck.

yes your Mac is better than his [not really the point but yipee] but his is within current min spec and no the release build will not go down in min spec after Larian optimizes the game because those min specs where a EA thing which has changed and been added to since then so it will go up or stay the same and just work subpar which sucks for some Mac users but isn't happening just because i said it would

I luckily have powerful Windows on hand. but let's imagine one thing - someone buys BG3 thinking that he has a mac like me and the dev ensures that the game works at a low / medium level.
He installs the game and it works horribly. He is waiting for the premiere with the hope that it will bring optimization (because the developer finally provides the minimum requirements) and, for example, it will not help anything.
I wonder if such a person can return a game that does not meet the developers' promises in terms of minimum requirements ... We just have to wait. I hope Larian will respond to this

These forums are principally for community members to talk to one another. If you'd like a response from Larian, the best bet is to contact their support team (details can be found in the support section of their website). Though if the Mac version is still in the process of optimisation they may not be able to give you any definitive answers right now.
