Something I see people making mistakes about when they talk about builds is isolating themselves to a single weapon. This is inadvertently nerfing their capabilities though. Because different weapons come with different bonus abilities now, we really should be talking about weapon 'classes' (for lack of a better word).
You should be using your weapon abilities and swapping our weapons between combats (unless you are resting in between every fight).
I would say there are '4 classes' to keep in mind when building a character that can swap weapons effectively:
1. Finesse
2. 1-Handed and versatile
3. 2-Handed and versatile
4. 2-Handed Polearm
Obviously there are some builds that depend on a single weapon that this doesn't apply to (like spear and shield PAM). But otherwise, taking a d2 hit on damage when downgrading from a rapier to a scimitar for one combat ends up paying off if you hit with a lacerate on a tougher boss bleeding them and opening them up for a thunderwave or setting up an ally to break the baddy's concentration.
For martial weapons, you aren't usually taking a hit to damage within the same class of weapon anyway, so you are literally just taking away options that could make the difference in a battle if you don't have a combo of at least three different martial weapons of that class.
1H example: You'd need a battleaxe, morningstar, longsword, rapier, and warhammer, to get access to every ability, but even just having three of them gets you up to 8 different abilities rather than just the 3 you would have by staying with a single weapon.
Anyway, I just wanted to share because it was something I missed in the first playthrough of EA, and saw other people sleeping on it, too.
