One of the key features of a Champion is getting an additional fighting style at level 10.
However, Paladins and Rangers can get an extra fighting style much sooner by multiclassing a level 1 Fighter.
Champions can do that with a level 2 ranger or paladin but they would lose level 11 Extra attack.
So other than the 5% increased crit chance, the other key feature for a Champion of getting an additional fighting style, which was already pretty lackluster, is devalued even more.
Will Larian add more features for the Champion class?

Champion wasn't in EA so it's still a mystery.

Champions are the vanilla ice cream of a vanilla ice cream class, there not necessarily anything wrong with that.

Champions are the vanilla ice cream of a vanilla ice cream class, there not necessarily anything wrong with that. The difference is that vanilla is, at the very least, moderately tasty. The Champion subclass is just bad. It'd be one thing if it was just boring. That's fine; every class should have a "simple & boring" subclass. But it's also underpowered compared to most other fighter subclasses (and even more so compared to other classes). That said, BG3 gives out free bonus actions and lots of magic items so the Champion subclass will be a less boring and more powerful than 5e RAW. I'd be in favor of Larian buffing the Champion.

How can we forget the Champion's overwhelming 7th Level ability ... Remarkable AthleteStarting at 7th level, you can add half your proficiency bonus (round up) to any Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution check you make that doesn't already use your proficiency bonus.
In addition, when you make a running long jump, the distance you can cover increases by a number of feet equal to your Strength modifier. Since you're already proficient in Strength and Constitution checks as a fighter It boils down to +2 in Dexterity checks and jumping an extra 4 or 5 feet(assuming you are a Strength based fighter). That is power.

If you go all in on critfishing it can be fun, if one dimensional.

If left alone, Champion is quite nice to dip into. I mean, if you're dipping for 2 levels for the Action surge, but add one more for the increased crit range- yeah. Useless if you're already a warrior, since you miss out on a full APR, but for a rogue or somesuch, nifty stuff.
Fear my wrath, for it is great indeed.

How can we forget the Champion's overwhelming 7th Level ability To be fair, all the fighter subclasses get terrible 7th level features. Know Your Enemy Starting at 7th level, if you spend at least 1 minute observing or interacting with another creature outside combat, you can learn certain information about its capabilities compared to your own. The DM tells you if the creature is your equal, superior, or inferior in regard to two of the following characteristics of your choice:
Strength score Dexterity score Constitution score Armor Class Current hit points Total class levels, if any Fighter class levels, if any War Magic Beginning at 7th level, when you use your action to cast a cantrip, you can make one weapon attack as a bonus action.

Champion is actually my favorite fighter subclass, followed by Purple Dragon Knight/Banneret because it feels more "normal" than many of the other subclasses. That being said, I really wish the martial classes wouldn't have such extreme vfx in BG 3... hopefully we can mod those out so a martial class doesn't feel like a caster visually.

War Magic Beginning at 7th level, when you use your action to cast a cantrip, you can make one weapon attack as a bonus action. This would be better if booming blade was in the game.
