Where it's not considered 'Temp Health' so they can have their Arcane Ward + Temp Health and you don't need to make concentration checks if the ward takes damage but you don't take any.

This is a huge feature of the Abjuration Wizard and makes or breaks the subclass. In fact not having this would make the subclass completely pointless.

While I don't think it's as dramatic and would still play an Abjurer, I agree it should be changed to work correctly. Concentration is a big deal in BG3. The way you take small damage from endless surfaces and can't hide your Wizard behind cover, you definitely need all help in keeping your concentration up.

What I don't like is the VFX for Arcane Ward. It's way too pronounced for such a persistent effect. They could simply turn it off entirely when exploring. Even in battle it doesn't have to be this big eggshell around you. You have icons for indicating active effects. It can give visual feedback when it's activated and actually soaks damage, we don't need to see it all the time.

I actually think it looks cool, but I guess I can understand not wanting it around all the time. But the affects of it is make or break for me.

I like the FX too. Best reason to play it IMO. Who wants to be a wizard if you can't have flashy FX?

Of course spellcasters have to have big spells and flashy VXF. But if flashy VFX are on 24/7 they just become boring.

If it was up to me, Arcane Ward would play a spectacular deflection animation with a sound when you are attacked. The always-on force field shield VFX that doesn't react to attacks or interact with anything is the opposite of flashy and cool for me.

Then you want to have get more to layer on top. But how is it any more boring that wearing clothes?

I used to play an Ice Tanker in City of Heroes. Lots of frosty shields I could toggle on and run around with.

Unfortunately, it's been that way for three years, so I don't suppose they have any interest in constructing a 'temp HP' system specifically for the ward. False Life is just as good, or can keep parity with the ward, if you're willing to upcast it. That would allow you to pick a sub-class that hasn't been gimped. Recharging the ward is gonna be tough in this game anyway.

Shield is in now by all accounts.
