Winning a fight gets your party XP while talking your way out of a fight doesn't, correct?

I just can't live with the idea that I am missing out on XP and therefore I will always prefer to fight... At the same time, I can imagine it will feel better (with regards to story and role-play) to persuade or intimidate an enemy instead of fighting.

So I'm unsure how to approach this... I'm just afraid that missing out on XP in many situations throughout the game might eventually cause me to have difficulty defeating enemies later on, because I didn't level up enough...

What are your thoughts on this?

Youll lvl up enough Id wager. Also you do get Xp from convincing ppl to stand down etc. example: Bandits outside temple on The beach. It depends how fast youll want your playthrough I guess. If you just beeline it to The Main quest and dont do side stuff, then maybe. Some content in EA will be changed/added to in full release. But I was lvl 6 before underdark or just on The cusp before entering underdark. I played through a LOT of content in underdark that was meant for lvl 5-6. if EA had higher lvl available I wouldnt be surprised if I would have been lvl 7 or 8 at The elevator after grymforge. And were still talking Act 1 basically.

So I really wouldnt sorry about it If I were you. Larian have made those encounters that you can dialogue through as an optional Path. I doubt they will «punish» or diminish your Xp for doing so. And Even if they do, it can very well still be worth it story/roleplaying wise, and youll still hit top lvl no problem.

You also Get Xp from several other sources than combat. Puzzles and disharming traps are two such examples.

You can kill everyone, so at some point you have to make the call of: is it worth murdering every living creature in the game so you can level up a little earlier than you would otherwise?

For me, I prefer to just play out conversations as my character would. If it starts a fight, then I fight. If it convinces them to join me, great.

You get xp for completing missions, and there a plenty of fights with deserving creatures for you to kill and get xp from.

You can pretty easily hit level five before leaving the first map after the tutorial and that is like 1/15th of the game. Plenty of xp to be had without being a murder hobo.

One of the things I hated in divinity games was being accidentally over leveled. If you explore the open world in 'the wrong order', you get too much XP, then suddenly every fight becomes completely trivial as you out-level your enemies. I therefor suggest not trying to get as much XP as you can. Enjoy the game casually, doing what feels right and it will be more fun, or at least have a better chance of maintaining fun for a while...

I agree with everyone else on this - don't worry about missing out on XP by resolving conflict through RP instead of combat. If it'll be anything like D:OS2, you'll be perfectly fine level-wise at endgame even if you were to be as peaceful as possible. We've also only had Act 1 to go by so far. There might be situations where NPCs/enemies come back in later Acts and either give you more to do or come back stronger and give more XP down the line. Killing them right off the bat might lock you out of those situations and rewards.

In one of the more recent YouTube videos with D&D talking about the different classes, Nick from Larian said you'd get experience, I don't think he actually said experience, from talking your way out of combat.

You get the same amount. Simple as that.
