It has already been announced that there is no preload. Is it possible to update from early access or do you uninstall it before properly downloading the main game?

The update is essentially having to download the entire game again so there’s no benefit not to uninstall the early access version waiting on release.

As an early supporter, I was upgraded to the Digital Deluxe Edition.
If everyone gets access on the 3rd of August, whatever happened to the 72 hour early access?
Does this mean, we don't get it?

No, it means that everyone gets it. The game has been pushed forward to August 3 for everyone.
Fear my wrath, for it is great indeed.

Does this mean, we don't get it? Since the game's release was bumped forward a month, they dispensed with the 72 hour head-start.

The 72 hour early access was always a bit meaningless on PC anyway, given everyone who bought the game before the launch date was to get free upgrade to Digital Deluxe. So when the launch date was 31 August, everyone who bought the game on PC before then would have got access to act 1 from 28 August or whenever they bought the game, whichever was later. So they may as well have announced a 28 August release date for act 1 for PC and have done with it. And from 31 August early access would have been moot anyway. It would have been even more meaningless once Larian had decided just to release the whole game early.
The three day early access for Digital Deluxe has been kept for PS5 where it actually makes sense, given there's no free EA upgrade.
"You may call it 'nonsense' if you like, but I've heard nonsense, compared with which that would be as sensible as a dictionary!"

Downloading "only" 80 GB and then waiting two or three hours for the files to process as they are overwriting the previous ones isn't any better (and in fact significantly worse) than just downloading 120 GB.

At PC Games in the comments is the editor. Article „Preload von Baldur's Gate 3 kann nicht gestartet werden - was ist da los?“

I understand what you mean, but does not know how long the processing takes. And it may be better to load 40 GB less during the rush

And it may be better to load 40 GB less during the rush Well, I know that it was dreadfully slow during the previous updates in EA when involving smaller patches. I have no reason whatsoever to believe it changed significantly now.
