I really want an evoker and a druid in my party.

I could either play an evoker myself, 1 of the druid companions, Karlack and Minsc BUT respec Minsc to a bard as soon as possible. He will be the party face as well as the trap disarmer of the party.

OR

I could play a bard myself, let Gale become an evoker and recruit Karlack and a druid companion.

Does it matter whatever I or a companion is the party face? Could people with early access experience answer? I have decide to not play until release.

thanks

First, let me just say that you don't need a high Charisma character to enjoy the game. You'll find that there are a lot of different skills that lead to interesting results other than just persuasion, intimidation, and deception. With Background, Race, Class, and your other skills, there will be very few conversations that won't include some special interactions.

That said, I strongly recommend that your Main Character be the one having all of the conversations. One of the main ways to build trust/relationships with your companions is for them to watch you interact with the world. If you continually have other characters speak for you, you'll lose out on all those "relationship points" (for lack of a better term).

Having 12-14 charisma and friends cantrip on your evoker will get you far. There are also magic items found along the way that can assist you in dialogue checks in the form of mimicking spells etc.

And from level 3 you can have detect thoughts on your evoker, which will lead to many interesting conversations.

Thanks both, than will I remain an evoker as planned, maybe could Minsc remain a ranger if I somehow can give any companion sleigh of hand.

The Emo Princess has it. The Bruin BoyToy too.

When selecting a race for your main character evoker, consider a race that gives you additional skills, such as human, gith, half elf or half orc. Consider a background that gives you a social skill, such as charlatan, soldier or noble. Have 12 charisma. Talk away!

In my opinion it is not necessary to "win" conversations to have a good game. Results for failing can be more interesting sometimes than passing and also your high charisma does not reliably help you in cases you absolutely want one result. I don't know wether that's a thing in DnD TT or Larian homebrew, but you can reroll failed checks several times if you have inspiration (which is not that difficult to achieve). That's better than high Charisma for passing checks.

More important for me in the EA was high Wisdom. Later Wisdom will save you from nasty effects (which were very seldom in the EA), but it is very important from the start for perception checks, to notice hidden stuff. Having at least one char with decent Wisdom is mandatory for me, more is better. If I had only one Druid or Cleric, I would not change this ugly Minsc guy from Ranger to Bard.

Rangers can get sleight of hand as one of their class abilities. In fact, taking it it is the only way to get 5 skills on a Ranger.
