Hello!

As the title says, I'm new to this stuff. While I like some companion classes I am not sure if they would be more viable if I multiclass them. For instance, will Karlach be better as a straight up barbarian or if I put in 2 levels of fighter?
Will Astarion be better as an Assassin or assassin gloomstalker for his thieving stuff? Etc....

For my main class for this playthrough I went with tempest cleric and sorc. So far not sure how to feel about it but I feel like I have to long rest after every skirmish. My guy is only 3 so I'm sure he will be much better later. Just not sure if straight up sorc would have been stronger.

Your choice, but if you're new to the game then I'd recommend just sticking with the class they come with. And Larian certainly say that multi-classing is better for more experienced players, so you might be being a bit too ambitious with a cleric/sorceror multiclass out of the gate!

That said, I believe you wouldn't get any more spell slots even as a single class, and it is the case that especially in the early game you need to ration your use of levelled spells if you want to have a reasonable adventuring day. Remember you can use scrolls, cantrips, weapons and grenades to save your spell slots.

Oh, and I'll move this thread to the Builds section where it possibly fits better.

Thank you for your reply!

You are probably right. I am being a bit ambitious with my multiclass. But I'll keep the others simple

With questions such as this you would be better off watching YT vids. Classes and multi-classing are well covered and you will find one that explains things in a way that meets your needs plus you wont have to deal with the crappy forum performance.
