Larian clearly didn't want any original D&D spells stealing the thunder from their own CC baby Bonus Action Shove.

There's nothing more fun than battlefield control, and 5e has a really well developed and pretty balanced system for it. Between concentration, breaking concentration, saves, and using spell slots it's just not viable to have it also not stick.
