Read that Sven (CEO of Larian) wants to develop new game which doesn't take another 5-6 years. I thought we were going to get lot of DLCs for races, classes, new locations and campaings in FR (Waterdeep anyone?) but sadly that seems to be not the case. So, is development over for BG3?

I think we'll need to wait and see. I imagine that Larian will be working on BG3 bugfixes for a while yet, and they've said they have no plans for expansions or DLC, but that doesn't stop us asking for it and you never know!

I would be thrilled to have a game that is simply finished, and have the dev move on to something new. This idea of having to make all games live service essentially is getting very old.

Seems like a waste of a good system to just make BG3 and not use the same tools for one more DND game.

I think BG3 deserves a DLC. Since 1 & 2 have them it would be nice to have a reason to come back to faerun in a year or two. I really hope Larian continues to make DnD CRPGs. I've been waiting for a Dragonlance setting CRPG my whole life.

Debugging BG3 will take several months.
BTW -development is not over yet - PS5 is being readied for early September, Mac version is WIP while XBOX is in the woods ...

There probably not be any more main races or classes added but I think some more bits will be added through patches...stuff like subraces or subclasses. And while I doubt there will be any big DLC that adds story or major plot I suspect there will probably be something akin to the DOS2 Definitive Edition in time for BG3 with minor DLC like some packs of items and the sorts. But whatever their intentions Larian have never been in the habit of announcing such things far in advance...if Larian plan them they will be announced when they are ready and no sooner.

Considering the amount of minor additions made to DOS2 after release, it's probably not the end.

An expansion would be nice down the line though.

My issues aside, the game is solid. Not having a sequel that gets you to 20+ and having access to kewl stuff like a modern version of Wish not mentioned the ability to use those level 20 abilities would be dissapointing. Could even add options that they didnt/couldnt/wouldn't this time around. Plus, it cood mirror bg1-bg2 to a lesser degree.

Between Larian's post-sales support and 3rd party mods BG3 isn't anywhere near losing development talent.

Baldur's Gate 3 can't stop here. After this episode, at least we need one great expansion if not two until 20th level, like in Neverwinter Nights 2, and then the great next step, Baldur's Gate MMORPG, the RPG online community awaits from decade a stunning MMORPG based on D&D, and this may be the right time. All the settings have been already written, not only the Forgotten Realms, all ones by Wizard of the Coast, the adventures, the PNG, the story, cities and so on.

I don't think there will be any such expansion and for the moment there seems to be no plan or intent to go to higher levels. And given how the story is set up with the BBEG gang all together with a heavy dose of illithids thrown in as well for a final showdown I don't think there will be more chapters to this story...this is very likely the end of the line for dead three. If there will be more Baldur's Gate games they will not be related to this trilogy and not called BG4. So in terms of leveling and advancements this is likely it...12 will likely be the max. But the game does offer far more magical items and far more powerful ones than any DM would dare hand a player at that. So the power curb of a maximized level 12 BG3 character will probably be well beyond that of a level 12 5e character at a table in the tabletop D&D version.

There is no evidence from Larian themselves that they care about anything beyond the game they have made already ( which is very enjoyable, thus far, if still lacking much logic as to when dialogs trigger ).

Unlike NWN2 which provided 3 different stories that between them provided complete coverage of the then-current rules set, along with DM facilities, and development tools for players to make their own adventures, Larian seem content to provide 60% rules coverage, and no DM tools, although they have talked about modding tools.

It's possible the success of BG3 ( it is likely already the most successful CRPG made to date, only 3 days after release ) may cause Larian to re-evaluate their plans, but it would still be challenging for them to match BG3's quality in any expansion.

After BG3's bugs are fixed and a difinitive edition produced, I think that modders are the best bet for further development, although you should not expect the cinematic depth that BG3 exhibits.

Larian with BG3 laid the foundation to counterfight Bethesda Studio's (Elder Scrolls will have the sixth episode), I can't believe they will stop here to carry out smaller project nevertheless Swen Vincke statements. In addition, will be very important the Wizard of the Coast opinion and PS5 and future Xbox sales.

The story is not so important, you can create a new one (usefull for a BG4 or BG:MMORPG like Warcraft World), but not reaching 20th level will be a suicide towards the community.

I can imagine that Sven and the development team are thrilled with the game they’ve made, but I can also imagine that they might be a bit burned out, particularly after such a long period in EA. As much as I’d love to have more content, as well, I can’t fault them if they say, “We did. We love it. We’re proud of it and always will be. What’s next?”

There will be more content for BG3. Starting new projects has nothing to do with that, there are several teams within Larian.

A TOB style expansion in 1-2 years would be amazing, no hurry though - give this title all it needs to breath!

Let the team long rest after a heavy patch season post-launch,

Come back refreshed after a decent holiday - smash out a TOB 12-20 mega expansion, similar in scope to Phantom Liberty.

Hopefully we will get new origin/companions as some form of DLC.

There is obviously demand for that, Larian probably already has enough concepts in a drawer and apart from their personal quest they do not require you to shoehorn more content into a finished story which unbalances leveling or leads the story in strange directions.

And you will mostly need animators and voice actors, people which have little to do at the start of a new project.

1-2 more origin companions
3-4 more levels
One new area somewhere in the Acts
One post-game area
Artificer Class and 1 extra subclass
Post game story content and companion quests

I haven’t even left EA content and I want more.
