It's conspicuous in it's absence, as this was a main feature of Baldur's Gate.
Part of the whole appeal of that game was the idea of a character that could be exported and continue the adventure in a sequel, which we actually got. The tease was even extended from BG2 to NWN, even if that never materialized.
The idea of having a Library of Characters or Hall of Heroes.
Not a savegame profile, but an actual character sheet that you can pull up and look at when you're deciding who to roll. You know, maybe there's even access to inventory or a way to respect based on the adventure or group your joining? Perhaps the character up to whatever level they've achieved in game, can downscale XP from there, to join a group at the appropriate level. Maybe re-kit gear at an amount that's appropriate to the campaign at that point.
Character Creation is almost never a time sink, if it can be handled prior to the actual session. A lot of times it's the most engaging part of the whole game, which is why it's weird that a lot in the character creator feels like it's trying to rush us there. I'd love to see other things that enhance the Char creator with more previews and control over the lighting and the little portrait that's generated from the avatar models selected all that stuff. But being able to export/import a Character comes before all that. So yeah, odd miss there.
