Larian Studios Forums Baldur's Gate III Baldur's Gate III - Technical & Gameplay Problems No sound after character creation.

I have already posted in another threat but starting my own here. Hope somebody can help cause I am about to throw my pc out of the window.

My audio distort after the first and sometimes on the first character creation screen, before that everything works fine, from the logo, to the main screen, to the first cinematic. In the creation screen mostly the second one, It makes a static noice and crackles and shuts down completely without crashing and the audio is gone it won't come back. But there is no sound so it is spring but without the colours.

So I already did the following

-contacted Larian, what not really a helped, cause they came with the same things I already did sadly.
-verified the gamefiles. I did this multiple times
-reinstalled the game. I did this multiple games
-verified my audio settings making sure it was alright, only running realtek.
-runned it throught the launcher in Vulkan and DX11
-changed output from 44.1 to 48 kHz and vice versa
-spacial audio on or off didn't make a difference
-audio enhancement on or off didn't make a difference
-disconnected game controller, it could be seen as a audio device by Windows, I read this somewhere on another sound issue post.
-reinstalled a clean version of the realtek drivers
-reinstalled gpu drivers through DDU
-disconnect the wifi attenna just to be sure.
-dissabled the mic just to be sure.
-used a DAC
-Used process Lasso
-Tried launching bg3.exe and bg3_dx11.exe as admin
-bios update
-bluetooth doesn't work
-did a cmd sfc scannow, everything was fine
-did a cmd DISM HealthCheck, everything was fine
-did a cmd DISM RestoreHealth, everything was fine
-Completely reinstalled Windows and this all over again.


Nothing helps, i got practically an empty pc, and still nothing.

Three things that come to mind

1) steam is the issue
2) Motherboard is screwed
3) the game isn't properly optimized

In EA everything was fine and now I cannot play it, why the f*ck is that? It just sucks. I hope a fix will come really soon.

My specs are: CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X
GPU: AMD RX 6700XT
SSD: XPG GAMMIX S11 Pro 1TB
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3600 C18 4x8GB
MBD: ROG Strix X570-E Gaming

Does the issue persist even afterwards. say you make a character the problem happens like you say. then you save. close game. reload. and the issue is still there?

Yes, the issue is still there. It then breaks on load up with a loud static noise and breaks down and doesn't return. Sometimes when I make a character and go to the second character screen it starts the distortion if I immediately return the audio resumes and after a while breaks down.

Have you tried without using realtek drivers? uninstall those and just use windows supplied drivers?
I had issues with realtek in the past that made me never use them again.

If that doesn't work. might also be a good idea to check if other devices to work. like headphones or earbuds. to narrow the issues down.

I tried it with headphones, BT headphones, different speakers and different wires and for everything sound effects are disabled. I can look again Maybe overlooked an option.

So after a total clean installation of windows by whiping my drive completely it still doesn't work. Propably looking for a new motherboard is my best bet

I tried everything you said, even formatting the pc and installing a clean version of windows.

my hardware:
- MB Asus TUF Gaming B550M plus Wifi 2
- CPU AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
- RAM Asgard DDR4 3200mhz 2x8gb
- VGA Radeon RX 6650XT
- SSD NvMe PCIe4 2Tb (R5000/W4500) - (OS Installed here - Tryed to install game here too)
- SSD NvMe PCIe3 1Tb (R2200/W1800) - (Main Steam Lib here)


I think:
* Propably incompatibility AMD VGA or CPU
or..
* the game isn't properly optimized

I am currently getting a new ssd just to clear everything out if that isn't helping it is probably a optimization thing. Larian noted in the specs it should support AMD. My girlfriend has an older and setup a Ryzen 5 3600 with a 5700xt and has zero issues. I have a Ryzen 9 5900 with a 6700xt and got this issues, so I believe it to be optimization, with AMD hardware, but I shall come back to you when I have some testing with the new SSD

So I played for a while with no sound hoping it came back on a brandnew out of the box SSD still no luck. This game is poorly optimized to run on AMD Hardware, is my only conclusion.

I don't know what else to do, so I'm waiting for an update to fixes it.

I hope they adress this in the upcoming patch. I don't really have hope they will fix it with the next patch. But you'll never know. I am starting to loose faith, cause I don't get any replies on the mailing, also send them the vid, no reply. So fingers crossed

but which? Asus MB, Radeon VGA 6000 or some Ryzen?

I believe it has something to do with the voltages usages of the processor and the mobo. Everybody who has this issue has an asus mobo. I have tweaked with the voltages to no effect. Larian needs to check on this if they can reproduce this issue with the same setup as you and I have. An Asus Mobo with a ryzen 5 or 9 cpu and a 6000 series gpu as well as an 7000 series cpu. I don't believe they will read this cause every thing I find I mail that to them and got no reaction or we are working on it. If it is true that it is an incompatiblity issue with the game and certain hardware I would want to find that out. I have been troubleshouting for 27 days now, and stil no luck and I am losing faith in Larian. Every game I play has no issues, I think BG3 uses alot of power from the cpu in the mobo and it cracks the audio or cuts it out. I am getting really frustrated with this. Got al lot of time in EA and I cannot play it and when I hear people playing it on a cheap rig or potato pc it really makes me mad.

i have a potato laptop that runs at 5 fps but all functions work.

but it's impossible to have fun with ultra low graphics and 5 fps.

even more so knowing that my pc runs at maximum without problems. or should.
