Same problem here. Worked perfectly before the Hotfix. Now i can't launch the game. Turning Steam off and using the .exe worked but i can't play online.
I don't have GeForce Now... Steam up to date, nvidia drivers up to date. Thankfully I found this thread before reinstalling. Shame I gotta find all my mods again and wasted all that time but c'est la vie.

Try that. Tried effectively everything short of a full re-install and i dont think that would change anything
Edit: Got it working again Deleted the latest hot fix.pak file and verified the files via steam which redownloaded the hot fix Fixed the issues it seems. Apparently the Steam verify integrity of files thing overlooked the bad Hotfix installation so only really a hunch on deleting and reinstalling the latest hotfix was the fix short of a complete reinstall This method didn't work for me

Sadly, this doesn't work for me either. Since the "hotfix" my game is constantly crashing at startup. Something about ntdll.dll in the event log. Vulkan and dx11, run as admin, rename the folder, none of that worked. I tried reinstalling the game and that didn't work. I've got almost 70 hours in the game so far so it USED to work. I'm not sure what to try next. Nvidia graphics drivers also updated at the same time. Maybe try rolling them back. Not sure.

If I kill all the Steam processes in task manager and then launch the game as administrator from bg3.exe then it will run as expected.

The game seems to demand I use Steam to let me connect online or join others (even if I do have their game/lobby ID). I will try what you suggest. Are you able to play multiplayer if you do that?

The last hot fix actually broke the game for me, it now crashes just before the menu (at 100%) no mods, checked integrity of the game, will crash 7 or 8 times before it actually loads, great game but still a little frustrating. The only additional thing changed was Nvidia's updated drivers. 536.99.
Windows 11, system drivers are all up to date, as is the bios, 4080rtx. 32 gig memory checked and fine, 13700k no over heating not over clocked.
edit: Just tried launching it without the launcher (tried several times) and it has zero issues... bg3_dx11

The game will crash if you have Steam running. Kill Steam in task manager and then launch either bg3 or bg3_dx11 from steam/steamapps/common/baldurs gate 3/bin/ and it will run.

Keep in mind that bg3.exe is the one for Vulkan.

I'm also experiencing reproducible crashing since Hotfix 3. I cannot load most save games made after Hotfix 3. Trying to load a save game crashes to desktop. I can load save games from Hotfix 2.1 or earlier.

It's obviously rubbish for you that the game is repeatedly crashing, but perhaps positive for getting a fix that you're finding the crash reproducible. Can I just check whether you've submitted your savegame and details of your setup to Larian via the Report a Bug link at the top of the launcher? That might help them diagnose and resolve the problem.

In that response I added additional information about troubleshooting I've done as well as attached an example save file - one that crashes both my PC and my Steam Deck. Also, one issue with the "Report a Bug" link is that it limits attachments to 20 MB. My most recent save file (which reproducibly causes a crash) is 27 MB. Hopefully attaching it to my email reply allows them to view it as the 20 MB limit obviously means I could not submit it as part of the initial ticket.

This is still the case. After the hotfixes and patches, the game now continues to crash on startup so long as you have Steam opened. I am unnable to play in multiplayer as well, since the feature seems to be unavailable unless you have steam open. Including if we try direct connecting.

Such a strange way helped me. On the bg3.exe file itself, in the compatibility settings, enable the option "Run this program as an administrator" In Steam, in the game settings in the "launch options" option, specify the path to bg3.exe in this form "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Baldurs Gate 3\bin\bg3.exe" %command% Specifying the path where you installed the game. Parameters must be with such quotes and percentages. After that, go to Steam and before starting the game, hold down the Shift key until the game starts.
I understand that all this looks like some strange dances with a tambourine, but this allowed me to launch the game from the Steam client.

I understand that all this looks like some strange dances with a tambourine, but this allowed me to launch the game from the Steam client. Praise the Omnissiah, the rite worked. Without doing this strange ritual dance I cannot play the game in multiplayer or with steam opened at all. Even after Patch 1.

There's nothing hoodoo-voodoo about it. It is basic gaming knowledge - never run any game from C:\Program Files. It is because of file permissions so running as Admin means those file permissions don't apply to you (the Admin).
