I was just traipsing around the , only to find Dammon wandering on the bridge behind the smithy as a hostile undead. I had visited him several times earlier on, but then he disappeared and I thought it must have something to do with the story. Alas, it seems he has been dead the whole time!

What can I do? Is there any way of "resetting" him? I really, really do not want to have to start the game from scratch again at this point! Before anyone asks: no, he disappeared so long ago that I don't have any saves from before his disappearance anymore. Even if I did, loading the save would set me back something like 15 hours! Also, no, I have not attacked him, I have not harmed him even accidentally at any point.

Did you do the civil war in the Grove? Is he dead or undead? Can you interact with him?

I did say he is a hostile undead, so no, I cannot interact with him and no, he isn't dead-dead, but undead.

Maybe it's because I have a related problem, but this seems to be the easiest thing in the game to fuck up, by far. There are multiple situations that break Karlach's quest, and so far no one has found an alternate way to progress it (without Dammon).

I'm pretty sure the undead thing is intended. In my case I got a bug, in which the quest referred to a dead character and updated as if he was alive (Dammon wants the Infernal Iron, Return to Dammon, etc.) despite the fact I never even met him or talked to him.

Same here, it must be a bug

My guess would be that Dammon has somehow wandered outside the protective dome and into the shadow-cursed area.
