Slight Spoilers for Act 3 Ahead. Be warned.

I managed to rescue
Minsc
and recruit him into my camp, however when I tell him to join my active party he simply stands in place and does not follow behind me when I walk around the map with my custom character or any other origin character I have with me. The party follows when he takes the lead, but I want my custom character to lead conversations, so I've reached a bit of an impasse here. This is specific to him as well, every other companion follows normally and behaves as they should.

Thus far I have tried:
-Reloading the game (IE closing the application and fully restarting)
-Saving and then loading the game again
-Splitting the party and rejoining it
-Pairing him up with a different companion and splitting the party that way
-Reloading a save before recruiting him and doing it over
-Having him jump into a chasm and reviving him with revivify
-Having him jump into a chasm and reviving him with Withers
-Preforming several actions as him, such as jumping, attacking, moving objects, going in and out of stealth mode and then switching back to my primary character
-Attacking him myself
-teleporting/fast traveling to a different way point
-Dismissing him in the field and then recruiting him at camp again
-Dismissing him and then preforming a long rest

None of these have had any effect whatsoever. As it stands he's unusable unless I want to play as him directly.

I have encountered a similar situation but it is with

[spoiler]Halsin[/spoiler]

I recruited him in ACT 2, backtracked to the mountain pass for exploration with him in a full party. After any fight in that map, he would cease to follow the party. If you have him lead the party, everything seems fine and other companions will follow. But if you make him a 'party member', he will just stay in place. This bug does not happen when he is engaged in the fight in the [spoiler]ACT 2 cursed land[/spoiler] and he will continue following after a fight.

I have also tried the strategies you mentioned:

I haven't had wither revive him though but I doubt that makes a difference.

I have the exact same issue as the OP. I have also tried verifying game integrity and uninstall/reinstall and the issue persists. It's like his follow AI has been turned off somehow.

Alright, so I think that I've managed to fix the issue.

I reloaded a save to before I recruited him, dismissed one of my party members while he
Runs around in panic looking for Boo
and then told him to join my party the instant the option became available.

Tentatively, this seems to have fixed his follow AI. He now behaves how he should. I tried dismissing him, adding a new party member, going back to the map and walking around a bit before telling him to rejoin me and he seems to be working properly now. Hope this helps anyone with a similar issue.

I'll update the thread if he breaks again but it seems to be solved on my end.
