So I made this character years ago for tabletop. A reasonably busted build made even more ridiculous with BG3 itemization. I'm currently level 7 so that's as far as I'll write for now.
Half-elf (wood) rogue with an entertainer background.
Levels 1-4 into rogue (thief) and taking the actor feat
Levels 5-7 into warlock (fiend)
Spells:
- mage hand, because it's hilarious
- minor illusion, perfect distraction tool
- command, clutch in combat but also useful if you get caught stealing if you need to avoid killing the person you're robbing
- charm person, similar use to command and also useful in combat
- hex, it's handy and a useful skill to help the team in fights
Eldritch invocations:
- mask of many faces , an absolute must for this build
- thief of five fates, I'd say the second invocation is free choice but like hex, bane can be useful in combat
Take Pact of the chain at warlock 3 (just leveled up so haven't tested personally but summoned creatures supposedly enable sneak attack in the absence of another party member nearby giving you a bit more solo strength.
While not 100% necessary a few early game items help take this to the next level
- shape shifter boon ring
- smugglers ring (I'd say this one is essential)
- shadow of menzoberranzan (not exactly a super early game item, but quite important for trickier vendors to pickpocket)
- boots of speed make pickpocket getaway a breeze
- I keep rusty necklace on hand, but a party member with guidance is just as good, for combat I currently use the misty step neck.
With this build locks basically don't exist, the world is your oyster. If you're looking to really wipe a vendors inventory it's worth buffing with cats grace as well as guidance (use turn based mode to actually pickpocket so buffs don't fall off). Because of the shape shifter boon ring you pretty much want to be disguised all the time for the additional d4 bonus to checks.
The tabletop version of this build is actually even more busted at deception etc than in bg3 but is much more gimped in combat where bg3 itemization keeps the damage plenty solid enough still.
I'm currently dual wielding shortswords though I've heard tale that hand crossbows are also really good, but I haven't found any yet to test this.
Oh, turn off the blasted karmic dice as well. Not s great setting for a build that rolls dice so constantly with such huge bonuses
I'd love to hear your thoughts and suggestions if there is any obvious choice I missed or perhaps you know of a fun interaction of abilities with spells I don't mention.
Cheers!
