The continue button will occasionally appear while in the middle of dialogue and instead of "continuing" will select the first dialogue from the list of whatever dialogue options would next be presented, often resulting in the choosing of undesirable dialogue.
An example being when speaking with glut, I first asked why he wanted to turn on the other sovereign considering they had helped him, instead of the next dialogue choices I got the "continue" button which selected the "make it worth my while" dialogue option from the next conversation set. I could not hit the 2 or 3 key either to try and select a different dialogue option, only the continue button.
Thankfully I was still able to select "not getting involved" but there have been other instances where this occurred where I am not even sure what my choices were now.
The conversation log even lists you having selected that incorrect dialogue option too (in this case the "make it worth my while" option), despite it being the continue button.
