Larian Studios Forums Baldur's Gate III Baldur's Gate III - Help Tips & Tricks Can't find save files?

I was having issues launching the game through Steam (the game wouldn't launch properly and I'm not sure why). So, I tried launching the .exe directly through ~\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Baldurs Gate 3\bin

This has been working fine but now when I look at my save files at ~\Steam\userdata\70030357\1086940\remote\_SAVE_Public\Savegames\Story I'm missing about 4 hours worth of save files. I cant' figure out why this is.

My only guess is that I have Steam installed on a different drive than BG3 is installed on? So when I Run the game without Steam the save files are getting saved to a different location?

Any ideas?

Try C:\Users\<yourname>\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Public\Savegames

with your own drive letter and name maybe?

I couldn't find anything there (on any of my drives). The only place I've been able to find any save files is within my Steam folder.

I experimented with overwriting one of the saves that I found in the Steam folder from in the BG3 UI. But interestingly, it didn't appear to modify the file in the Steam folder. This leads me to believe my save files are copied over to another location.

I would've assumed it'd be a folder like you're describing @Boblawblah but there's nothing located at that path.

Ok, I think I found the files. They were on _yet another drive_. Completely different than what I expected. Thanks for the debugging help!

edit: nevermind, you got it, nice!

The file names are things like "Bob-011243__Quickave". Try searching in your windows file system for "__QuickSave" or "__AutoSave", that should find something, and then you'll have the file location. The search might take a while.

For future readers: I seem to have fixed the issue with the game not launching properly through Steam by reinstalling Steam.
