Would it be possible to make Find Familiar work without taking a spell slot? It's really irritating to have to shuffle my spells around just to cast this every now and then when my familiar's been whacked. There is no reason that it should take a memorized spot since it can only be cast as a ritual anyway.

Maybe it ought to be like the speak with spells, cast ones then recast as many times without using more slots.

I believe Find Familiar is a ritual spell. Therefore if you cast it outside of combat, you don't actually use a spell slot. This is not explained in game but if you press T and hover over the ritual tag it will explain it in the tooltip. They really should show the ritual caster class feature for the classes that have them so this is more clear.

I'm pretty sure this is how it is in tabletop. You hopefully should be able to keep your familiar alive long enough that you wouldn't frequently need to recast it.

The game already broke wizard by letting you change spells as often as you want, so this is a minor issue, IMO.

I cast it all the time, without it taking up a spell slot... in fact, I dont think its ever cost me a spell slot to cast it...

how are you doing it, that it costs a spellslot?

The issue isn't that it costs a spell slot to cast it, the issue is that it costs a reserved spell slot to cast it. Basically, every time this is going to be cast, it means the wizard is about to unlearn a spell, learn this, then cast, then unlearn this, then relearn the original spell. It's a hassle that could just be avoided by letting us cast it without having to take up a reserved spell slot since, as a ritual, it does not use a spell slot to actually cast.

The lvl 2 healing prayer has the same problem. It can't be cast in combat anyway and because Larian "streamlined" spell memorization there is never a reason to memorize it except for immediate use.
