It just seems really odd to me that a super intelligent group of mind flayers would impulsively instigate such a brainless suicidal attack on an entire city risking a hugely expensive airship and it's crew over seemingly nothing that important? Does the story ever explain why they did this crazy strike? It just seems really corny and I hope the game isn't full of that kinda writing throughout the game unless there really is some reason explained for it?

I assume they didn't make the decision? act 2 spoilers mind flayers are being mind controlled by the absolute which is being controlled by three idiots
Minthara is the best character and she NEEDS to be recruitable if you side with the grove! Also- I support the important thread in the suggestions: Let everyone in the Party Speak

There's some big Act 3 reveals that indicate what happened. I'm still trying to make sense of them because I think the rewrite made a mess of it. Gortash found out about the Astral Prism and, as he was worried about it's anti-psionic capabilities, sent The Emperor along with a tadpoled strike team and a nautiloid to steal it. The mission is successful, apparently, and the Gith give chase. Somehow Shadowheart ends up with the Prism despite not being part of the mission and being locked in an illithid tank. A Mind Flayer who looks like The Emperor tadpoles the protagonists, who escape and take control of the ship. I even think it's The Emperor who is the Mind Flayer who looks at the protagonist just before they get flung out of the nautiloid. At some point, The Emperor gets aboard the Astral Prism, and saves the protagonist from falling to their death. The Emperor may have been only pretending to work for the Absolute throughout this process.

Massive spoilers, information you most likely couldn't find or know unless you play a very specific origin: Honestly the plan was fine...but said plan wasn't hatched by Gortash, Orin, or Kethric. The architect of the entire plan to create and control the absolute was betrayed just as the plan was put into motion...that's the real reason it all went so wrong. The plan was highjacked by people who didn't understand it.

I just want to know if theres some attempt to give a reason to it, Im just glad it's not just a bunch of whipped up Evil Drama of Evil Villains with no real motivations or end goals.
