I just had an odd experience in the Druid Grove. I spoke to some Tiefling kid with my Main Character. He just grunted and the narrator said something like he was staring at something behind me. When I turned to look, the kid ran off, but I passed the perception(?) check to find the hidden passage when he runs off. We entered it, and eventually another kid talks to us, says something about us leaving by the time she counts to 10. I'm like whatever kid, and stand there to see what she's going to do about it. When she finishes the count down, she started to run off, so I followed her where she leaves through another passage, but we couldn't exit that way. I figured it was because we're too big. I have Shadowheart with me, so I used her disguise self spell to turn into a halfling and it let her through. She exited, climbed a ladder to find two kids, but not the one that ran out. The kids wouldn't talk to her either. I switched back to the rest of my party, exited the way we came in and met up with Shadowheart. The two kids there still wouldn't talk to us at all. I had the speech icon when I hovered over them, but nothing happened if I tried to talk to them.

I decided to just keep going, but before going down into the grove area where I was headed before this distraction, I decided to explore the rest of the place. As I walked past the place where you meet Wyll, we get sucked into a surprise conversation. Turns out the kid ran off and told someone we threatened her and I guess a guard caught up to us. I had the option to go willingly to jail or attempt a speech check. The camera was focused only on the person talking to us, so I had no idea who he was talking to. It wasn't my character, because I'm a warlock with high CHA, and proficient in that skill check. Whoever was having to make the skill check failed and I agreed to go to jail. It turned out to be Shadowheart. but for some reason I could cast only Guidance or Charm Person to help, even though only Guidance requires concentration. I don't know why it picked her instead of my character, but I decided to keep playing along.

I used her disguise self spell again to change into a Tiefling thinking she wouldn't be recognized, but I wasn't sure how to get her out of the jail cell. There were two people right outside the cell talking about killing a goblin in a cage. I had the speech bubble when I moused over them, so I clicked and Shadowheart magically teleported out of her cell and started talking to them. One wanted to kill the goblin, and the other was trying to talk her out of it. I chose the option to stand in the way. This is where things got more weird.

It suddenly changed to a different conversation. The narrator said Shadowheart was caught outside of her cell, by one of the people I was just talking with. I had the option to go back to the cell, bribe him, or attempt some speech checks or attack. I tried one of the speech checks, and of course failed, although this time I could cast Guidance and Charm Person to get advantage as well as a bonus. At this point, I felt this was too messed up and was going to have to reload anyway, so I just attacked him. I cast inflict wounds and got a lucky damage roll and reduced him to 1 HP. I switched to non-lethal attacks, and it took a couple of turns to land a blow and knock him out. I talked to the goblin and apparently whatever bit of the conversation it cut off, it seemed like I agreed to help her escape.

1) Why did it pick Shadowheart to make the skill checks or go to jail. I'm pretty sure it was my character that talked to the brat in the hideout.

2) I shouldn't have been able to escape jail by talking to someone standing outside the cell. It kind of makes me wonder if there wasn't anyone outside to talk to, if I could have brought my main character near the jail cell and broken our out with the magic of conversation teleportation.

3) The conversation switching from talking about what to do with the caged Goblin to being discovered having broken out of jail wouldn't be a bug if it weren't for:
3a) I used Disguise Self, so they shouldn't have recognized me, and:
3b) When I talked to the goblin after knocking out the person that recognized me, it acted as if the goblin conversation played out.
