I am surprised there is no thread for this yet.

Having snuck in through the Creche back door, I was tasked to speak to the captain, then the Inquisitor. He seems to assume I have the artifact the whole time, to which I have not confirmed the fact, then ends the conversation expecting me to place it in the planecaster. Upon trying this a message states "can't use this right now".

Although I can walk out and pursue other things, this seems to break the main plotline, for the artifact at least.

There is a lot of speculation on the Steam forums about this but no definitive resolution. It would help if Larian would chime in on this and, at least, assure us this is not a glaring omission on their part. If you have to follow a cripplingly specific path to reach a goal, then why introduce an option to approach the problem from multiple angles, ie. a back door?

Please clarify if this is a bug or another approach is available.

I kill inquisitor . and still got quest " kill inquisitor "

and can't use " Planecaster "

on steamcommunity you can find post and reddit 2 topics . yeah it's a bug .

RESOLVED !!!

I had been researching this bug for days. I had tried every suggestion I had read to fix this. I had no luck with any of it. I had triggered the Vlaakith scene in previous play-throughs, and could do so by loading those saves, so the only variable had to be something different specifically about this play-through.

The problem was Volo's Ersatz Eye.

In other play-throughs I did not let Volo replace my eye. In this play-through I had allowed him to do so. I loaded a save from before the eye surgery, rushed back through to the Inquisitor scene, and Vlaakith triggered properly now that I did not have the magical eye.

I hope this helps others who have been frustrated by this bug.
